I got this carrier for the sole purpose of being able to use it as a backpack carrier. I live in a city with limited parking, so driving my cats places isn't very doable, so I walk, and the vet hospital is 8 blocks away. I have more traditional carriers, but I get really tired carrying them back and forth because there's no good way to carry them.

So first off, my cats really like this carrier. I leave it out whenever it's not being used with a soft blanket in it (I'll occasionally add catnip), and they take turns napping in it during the day. I took two to the hospital yesterday (in separate carriers), and when loose in the exam room, both cats tried climbing back into this carrier instead of the second "normal" carrier I had with me. It is also a well-made, high-quality carrier.

Secondly, the size is perfect for my use. I purchased this one instead of the size smaller based on other reviews, and I'm glad I did--my heaviest cat is 12 pounds, and he's fairly lean and long, and I don't think he would have much room if the carrier was any smaller. As it is, he does have room to comfortably lay down, sit up, and turn around. The sides unzip to add more space, which really helps with "head room." The bottom on the inside is elevated higher than the bottom on the outside, so there is slightly less room than you would think by just looking at the exterior of the carrier. I cannot imagine trying to fit a 20 pound cat or dog in this carrier though, so I'm not sure how accurate the weight range really is. But, again, for my cats (9 lbs - 12 lbs), this is perfect.

It works great as a car booster seat but not as an airplane under seat carry on. It is too tall to go under the seat and if you lay it down not only is there not a lot of room for the pet but the base with the wheels doesn't fit. We bought another carrier for under the seat for our return flight and used the pet gear as extra carry on but it wouldn't fit in the over head either. I will continue to use it in the car but never again on a plane. I'm disappointed.

I have a 15 Lbs Cotton with short hair, and barely fitted in the opening of the bag.
The handle is very weak and it turned over several times.
I do not recommend this bag for dogs over 10Lbs.
I sent the bag back, with no problem ,and got credit for the purchase ,minus the original shipping charge and the tax.

I had great hopes for this bag, but to be honest, it fails in many of its "functions".

My two main problems was this:
1. The backpack makes my back hurt tremendously - not because the dog is heavy, but because the plastic bottom edge cuts into the bone right at my hips. The entire back is a piece of plastic, so it doesn't conform to the shape of my back. The entire weight is thus carved into my bone. Major ow.

2. So, I go "okay. I'll just wheel her around." Fail. Even with the 'safety' clasp on, my dog tilts a full 45 degree each time i start and stop. She' pretty much flying around in there, unable to sit or sleep or lie down for a full minute without being thrown into another position. Part of that, I think, is because the handle is just awkward to use. I can't explain it but it just doesn't work like a normal rolling backpack. Not only am I incredibly uneasy, my dog feels it tenfold.

Got this bag delivered on time, however it didn't work, sizing is misleading, I ordered large or up to 20 lbs but my border terrier at 16lbs could not fit in at all, base is hard and uncomfortable, returned bag on 2/8/12 and to date 3/4/12 almost a month later my return has not been processed.

I have had this carrier for at least 7 or 8 years. It is still like new and I have 7 cats of various sizes (up to 18lbs) that I haul back and forth to the vet in it. It is sturdy, lightweight, and ergonomic. I used to tweak my shoulder picking up those large plastic carriers since you have to have your arm straight out from your shoulder to lift them. Then off to the chiropractor to fix it at $35 a pop - pun intended. While I don't think my cats like it when I roll them over cobblestones up to the vet's office door, a bit of canned cat food when we get home seems to set them right.

Recently an acquaintance was coming out from a vet's office with her cat in a plastic carrier, she fell, the carrier busted open, and her cat escaped. Gratefully, the cat was found a few days later, but what heartache in the meantime! This will NEVER happen with this carrier. It was worth every penny.

Oh, I don't ever use it as an actual backpack so I can't comment on that. But I have never had a problem with the handle or having it 'twist.' The wheel base is wide so it rolls very well even over those cobblestones I mentioned.

I thought I'd let folks know that before you purchase this item from store123, please beware that the seller will not accept returns if you have opened the box.
