I wanted to be ecologically responsible and purchased a box of these envelopes. From the moment I used the first one I knew this was a big mistake. The seam in the middle of the envelope has to be taped in addition to the seam at the bottom. Finally the glue to seal these envelopes is almost non-existent. That also has to be taped. In my attempt to be ecologically friendly I have added waste to our planet by overdosing on sealing tape. I would definitely warn others to look for another product.

Well, you learn the hard way sometimes. The negative reviews of this product are right. These are flimsy, poorly designed and poorly made. Yes, they are 100% Post Consumer Waste and if you are mailing one piece of paper, you'll be fine. I own a small company. We send out CPAP headgear strap protectors. We are green and bought these because they are recycled. However, the all of the seams are weak, there is hardly any glue on the flap,and the paper is thin. We spend more money on tape reinforcing the seams than we should have to which also adds to our shipping costs. Don't buy these and AMPAD would do well to redesign them. The call for envelopes of this kind will only increase but no one should have to put up with this quality. We will not be buying more.

I think that the description of these as 60lb is flat out false, these are made of flimsy, thin paper that tears easily. The glue on the seam down the back splits open easily, necessitating tape. You get what you pay for, I guess.

I have to admit I expected the quality of these envelopes to be lower, but they hold up very well. The glue has a strong bond too, unlike some glue I've seen on some non-recycled products. Another unexpected bonus of the kraft color is that it is impossible to see through it, so it acts like a security envelope. Holding it up to a light will not reveal the contents. I highly recommend these to any business or individual.

I mail magazines and children's paperback books, and I am back to buy more of these envelopes. The paper is entirely made from post-consumer waste! While it is not as strong as paper made directly from trees, it is good enough for my purposes. This is a compromise worth making for me.

They're nice and sturdy, they feel good in your hands and it's great to use recycled paper. There's also the added benefit of privacy, because they can't be seen through.
