I purchased a few of these for use in teaching children about rhythm and music. I had been expecting it to produce a dull, soft, solid-wood sound, more like a children's toy, but was pleasantly surprised to find that it actually produces a loud, open, hollow-wood sound. This is a professional-sounding instrument. I believe it would work well in any rhythm or Latin band. Use the narrow end of the stick for a softer sound and the broader end for a louder sound. I first tested one of these at home and my college-aged children came in to see what was making that wonderful, curious sound. Everyone wanted to give it a try. Of course it was also a huge hit with the younger children I was teaching. Such a fun treat! I would definitely recommend these!

I bought 4 different sizes of this frog instrument and they are a blast! These small percussion instruments are a joy! We love them and have them out on the tables around our home. Yes, this may be one of the most engaging types of instruments for kids, as it has two options for how to make a pleasant sound. The first obvious one is to bang it on the nose. The second is to run the mallet across the ridges on the frog's back. It is also small, and easy to store. However, that also makes it easier to lose. Create a special place to put Froggy away, and be sure the kid puts it away. Best of all, it eats everything, even flies.

I purchased two of these "instruments" as a birthday gifts. What a HIT! We are trop rock fans who enjoy playing along with the band. "Froggy Bottoms" get a lot of use and have disappeared a few times as everyone wants one. Although small, compact and easy to carry in a pocket or purse, the sound is like that of a much larger instrument. Would not hesitate to purchase more.
