Finnish glass designer Göran Hongell set the trend for Finnish glassware in the 1950's. Strikingly fresh even today, his hand-blown bar glass series is distinguished by its parabolic curves and substantial, weighted bases. The Aarne line includes a cordial glass, cocktail tumbler, single and double old fashions, a highball, glasses for champagne and red wine, and a pilsner, along with matching pitcher. Geometric harmony. Artist and glass designer Goran Hongell (1902-1973) was one of the pioneers of the Finnish glass design. Hongell led the way for glass design in the 1950s with his pure-lined, mouth-blown Aarne range. The distinct design of the Aarne series was awarded the Gold Medal at the respected Milan Triennale in 1954 as well as the international Tabletop Award in the United States in 1988.
