Designed for cooling large spaces up to 450 square feet, this thoughtfully designed portable air conditioner uses environmentally-friendly R410a refrigerant gas to help protect the environment and the ozone layer. Its refrigerant also provides energy-efficient operation, using less energy to deliver the same amount of cooling as other refrigerant types. For faster, quieter, and even more efficient cooling, add water to the air conditioner's 14-liter internal tank; a full tank offers up to 12 hours of continuous water operation. Use the water-cooling function with "Turbo" mode for 13,000 BTUs of maximum cooling power, or with "Supercool" mode for 11,000 BTUs of cooling power. If the water runs out, the unit will automatically switch to "Cool" mode for 9,000 BTUs of air cooling. In addition to cooling, the three-speed unit also functions as a "dripless" dehumidifier and can remove up to 70 pints of water when in "Dehumidifier Only" mode. Additional modes include Fan-only/Filtering mode, Smart and Sleep modes, and Quiet mode.

The air conditioner also features an electronic control panel with an easy-to-read blue LCD display, a handy infrared remote control, and a 24-hour programmable timer that turns the unit on at a specific time--great for coming home to a cool room at the end of the day. In addition, it comes with an advanced air-filtration system, the Biosilver Techsystem, with high-performance 3M electrostatic filter, silver ions air purifier, and ionizer, a combination that removes allergens, germs, bacteria, and odors from the air. The filter should be replaced once a year. Other highlights include an adjustable thermostat, an electronic humidistat to prevent over-drying the air, and automatic shut-off, as well as durable caster wheels and side handles for portability. The De'Longhi Pinguino boasts water-to-air technology, 13,000 BTUs power,and a turbo power function to create the most comfortable conditions in the shortest amount of time. It also incorporates an eco-friendly refrigerant gas, R410A, which contains zero ODP (ozone depletion potential) and is also denser, allowing for more compact components and units. R410A is also a more-efficient refrigerant that allows for better energy-saving technology. And because the air conditioner is portable, you can spot cool room as needed, which is more energy-efficient than your central system. It includes an easy-to-use digital display with a fully featured remote control that allows easy and immediate control of functions and room temperature and features a 24-hour programmable timer, an energy-efficient adjustable thermostat to keep power-usage at a minimum, and a separate dehumidifying function as well as auto, sleep and boost. Its unique no drip technology, an exclusive process, uses condensation and collected moisture to help cool the air. Excess vapor is then discharged through the exhaust hose. The Pinguino includes a Supercool function that allows the unit to operate on water for a maximum power of 13,000 BTUs. You can easily fill the large internal 14-liter tank with the provided pitcher. A full tank of water provides up to 12 hours of continuous, supercool, water operation. If there is no water left, it automatically switches to operating on air at 11,000 BTUs. I admit, I got suckered into buying this unit because of the marketing and slick featureset. What a disappointment.

I am returning it as quickly as possible, and would probably avoid Delonghi products going forward. I was trying to get information on where to buy replacement filters from Delonghi USA (& Canada), the former did not reply to several emails (USA tech support), and the latter - the Canadian support email bounced (no such mailbox). What a joke.

PROS:
Really nice & modern color scheme, graphite and silver.
Pretty blue LCD that displays everything you need to know.
Eco-friendly refrigerant
Side handles (because its very heavy)
3M Biosilver Techsystem

CONS:
VERY Noisy - sounds like an old dishwasher when cooling in Water to Air mode (swishing noise, I am guessing the rotary engine cooling off using the water).
Water refilling to get optimal cooling (to get 13K BTU) is annoying & frequent (Tested on a very hot day I had to refill it every 6 hours), I would bet that most people would give up on this eventually. Without the water, this unit does 9000 BTU in air cooling.
Huge - This thing is only portable due to the casters. Very bulky.
No Oscillating Louvers! The air is blown up in one direction, no choice.
No information on how (part#?) or where to buy the 3M filters that should be replaced once a year.
Heavy - Perhaps I'm being picky here, but this thing is so heavy (128 lbs).

What I recommend instead: The Sharp CVP10MX, as most people here (Amazon) have had a great experience with it. I recommend you have a look.

I had a Sharp unit that finally gave out and when searching Amazon I found this new DeLonghi air conditioner with eco-friendly refrigerant. I have always liked DeLonghi products for their stylish looks and this air conditioner is no execption.
I have a metal roof with vaulted ceilings and when it gets hot the upstairs loft gets about 10* hotter than the rest of the house and since this is where I sleep I need some extra comfort. We turn it on around dinner time and put it in the turbo function that uses both water and air cooling to bring the temperature down and then when we get ready for bed we turn it down to the sleep function which is pretty quite for an air conditioner.
I like the easy to read LCD display and the super cooling with the water tank really helps get the room temperature down quickly. This is a solid unit that weighs about 130 pounds so the casters and built in handles help in moving it around. It has all the bells and whistles with 24 hour timer, auto/sleep function, turbo cooling and even dehumidifies. The R410a eco-friendly gas refrigerant was a bonus as I try to do my part to help the enviornment.
