I certainly do rely on the review of books and music here at Amazon and appreciate everyone's input, so here's mine. Yes---this album is of real bootleg quality and I knew that from reading the reviews before I bought it, but did it anyway because the price was reasonable and there isn't a lot of Hollywood Fats music out there. It is really really enjoyable but it sure does sound like someone had a recorder at their table. I can put up with this every so often if the music is good, like it is here. It makes it worthwhile. So I went into this purchase knowing full well what I might get, and I don't mind it so much because Hollywood Fats really knows his guitar!! For the quality reason, this only gets 4 stars. Musically, it's a 5. RIP

As others have said, there are some problems with the recording, but the music is 5-star for sure. Recordings with Fats are rare, and I'm glad this one is available.

If you enjoy playing with audio software, a few tweaks really helps this show. I slowed down the speed of the recording by 5%, which brings the tuning pretty close to A440 concert pitch. Also added some EQ boost centered around 250Hz and at 1kHz, then normalized the whole thing. While still not perfect, the show sounds way better, mostly because of the speed correction.

The guitar work of Fats is really amazing, and it is featured throughout. The vocals also sound much better slowed down. If you go in knowing this is basically a bootleg recording, are a fan of Fats, and if you don't mind tweaking the audio, this is a really good show. The music here really is excellent, and in spite of the issues, I have no regrets in buying this one....

I love Fats - so this was a huge let down. This is sub-bootleg quality at full price. Yes the performances are good, but there are REAL sound problems. Fats' guitar often is warbled as if in a non-musical tremelo sort of way. Sadly, the songs are sped up: Sidetracked in Ab; Hideaway in F. An instrumental that sounds like Okie Dokie Stomp comes off cartoonish due to the sped up tape. This could EASILY have been fixed. Hey, I enjoy bootleg quality as I look for the performances, but at full price this is just not worth it. Hopefully some folks with better quality tapes of Fats/Paladins shows will do it right.

I had the pleasure and privilege of seeing Hollywood Fats perform in the '80s with the James Harman Band, To find a recording of one of his live performances 20 years later is such a gift. I have another live album of his with his own band, but that album is a mixed bag; on this album, Fats shreds it in spectacular fashion on just about every track.

Yes, it was expected the sound quality would be sub-par, and that is why it took until the revived interest for this recording to be released. The two most interesting tracks were Fats originated instrumentals, and that is why this recording is of interest.

Not as good as Hollywood Fats Band's album "Rock This House", but if you like that one, you can just as well buy this one, too. Hollywood Fats himself is enough to make this record good.
