Upon receiving this item, I decided to test it by gently slicing it with my (slightly dull) kitchen knife on a cutting board. The knife went right through! This is potentially hazardous since wearing the glove would give me greater confidence and result in a worse injury had I not worn the glove in the first place. I have used a similar glove from another manufacturer, and it works very well. Stay away from this one.

I recently purchased this glove from Amazon along with a new mandolin slicer. I wanted to protect my hands from cuts since the food grippers that come with mandolins are generally pretty useless. I've used the glove 4 times with the manodlin. It does a great job of protecting your fingers while allowing you to slice veggies down to nothing. However, I noticed the last time that I used the glove there were already 3 small holes each on the middle & index fingers of the glove. Granted the glove says cut resistant, but really, a glove that costs ~ $25 dollars I expect to be more cut resistant than this. I'm disappointed that it's not going to last very long. For my next glove I'll have to investigate the much more expensive Kevlar or oyster shucking gloves.

I've worked in the glass industry for about 20 years, so I've seen a lot of cuts, slices and gouges. Sharp glass everywhere, long razors used for trimming vinyl windshield interlayers, and all that. I saw what worked there and most of it was combining multiple protection layers (multiple gloves), Kevlar gloves with thick natural rubber covering, and wire-reinforced inner glove liners.

In the meat packing industry, they use similar technology. The gloves must be food-safe and contain specific ratings for cut-resistance and/or puncture resistance. The gloves must withstand not only knives, but must also be durable enough to clean the rotating razor blades used for slicing meat. Gloves used around these sharp blades are ones like these: Medium Whizard Knifehandler Standard Heavy Duty High Performance Fiber And Stainless Steel Ambidextrous Cut Resistant Gloves With 3" Cuff

The Victorinox UltraShield gloves contain no metal, and they're made from very thin polymer. Yes, they're very, very thin (made from 13 gauge Dyneema, a high-performance polyetheylene) and one look at them was enough to convince me to send them back. I know from experience that such thin gloves will stop a reasonable square impact against a blade turned 90 degrees from the direction that a hand is moving, but will slice open if drawn alongside a blade (such as the blade of a V-blade mandoline slicer).

I now own two Whizard Knifehandler gloves (one for me, one for my wife). They're made with 7 gauge Spectra fiber with a stainless steel wire core. The lower the gauge, the thicker the material.Read more ›

At last! I can now use my mandoline(s) for a multitude of kitchen chores without fear of a trip to the emergency room! Naturally, I haven't tried to see how well the glove stops the blade, but after several apple pies and shoestring potatoes, I remain undamaged! The size medium glove just fits--I normally wear a womens' Large. Great product.

Just purchased this to use with a mandoline slicer. I was able to confidently slice vegetables that are too skinny to use the hand guard that came with the mandoline, such as carrots, summer squash and greenhouse cucumbers. I still exercise caution since the glove states cut resistant, not cut proof.

I am a professional Chef, you would think I wouldn't cut myself, but it happens. This glove is great. It gives dexterity to my fingers and the resistance to cuts is exceptional. It's a bit pricy but well worth it. I bought several through the years and wont buy another brand.

I bought this after I sliced my fingertip pretty bad while pealing a mango (slippery bugger). Since I'm a martial arts instructor, this was a serious setback for me. This glove does an excellent job of protecting my hands. I cook every day and have not had another cut since this. I've tested it by trying to slice my hand through it and nothing gets through. Very good buy.
