After repairing the upholstery seam on our boats sundeck each year, I did some research on UV resistant thread. This thread repeatedly appeared as "the premier" UV resistant thread. So, for the forth year in a row, I repaired the seam.

I really like this Outdoor Living Thread for making or repairing items for camping and that type of thing. Its definitely heavy duty enough to fix a camping chair when the seam started to get unraveled. My most recent use was for making new heavy duty nylon canvas roof rack cushions for my windsurfers. I made a sleeve of nylon canvas over a swimming pool noodle. It was a custom length that wasn't available commercially.

I used this thread to sew my 9x9 camper awning made from heavy duty canvas. Ourdoor thread was recommended on the sailrite website so I wanted to make sure I used thread that was uv & mildew resistant. The thread worked very well with my singer 44s sewing machine, I used a #18 needle and set the stitch length to 4 and it worked great! I ran out of thread while putting on the double fold bias binding and had to use some nylon upholstery thread. The thread didnt bunch up or give me any problems whatsoever!

This thread was fantastic! I found it to be incredibly strong for sewing up to 6 layers of 15 oz heavy canvas. It is slick and makes a very nice stitch through the toughest of material. I bought another type of Coats & Clark thread at a local hobby store when I needed a little more and it wasn't nearly as good. This stuff is the bomb!

Just from a stitching standpoint, Guttermen Upholstery thread is a much better performing thread on Sunbrella Marine fabric with a Babylock Ellure Plus Machine. Time will tell which wears better outdoors.

I had a terrible time with this thread, and finally gave up and bought Guterman's. This wouldn't stay wound on the bobbin (I lost half the bobbin before it stopped unspooling), and continually jammed in my machine ( a heavy-duty Bernina, no junk machine). I won't buy it again.
