I used a scale like this for years (10+) in a manufacturing business. Everyone in the place used it for weighing packages, blocks of steel and themselves! I couldn't wait to get one for my small business when I opened up my own UPS account. Digital scales look nice but unless you buy a really expensive one it probably won't last. You can also store this thing until you need it. It's durable and would take a lot to break it. No batteries or electricity either!
Amazon had the best price too, some places wanted over $100! Shop around folks!

I've been using this to weigh buckets of scrap metal, and I've checked it's reliability using a 1lb jar of peanut butter and it seems to be sound. My complaints are that the ridges on top make it harder to place certain large odd shaped items on the scale, such as a Rubbermaid tub with a grooved bottom. This wouldn't be as annoying if the ridges served an apparently useful purpose, but so far as I know they don't. Also, if you remove an item from the scale quickly the dial whirls very quickly back past the zero point and gets stuck to the right of the zero point somewhere, requiring me to zero it again, which is made even more irritating by the fact that it's very hard to get the measuring line exactly at the zero mark, it always wants to be at least a quarter pound to the right or left it seems.
On that note the lock tab is useful when transporting the scale (I get to avoid zeroing it again.) or measuring large items that cover the dial. But once again, upon releasing the lock tab the dial flees back to the zero mark and ends up to the right of it again, grrr. The only way to avoid this is to press on the scale with my hand and allow the tension to slowly go back to zero. This isn't a big deal, but this isn't a cheap scale, so I'm loathe to put up with inconveniences like these.
All in all a good and so far reliable scale (had it just a couple of weeks) with a few annoying quirks.

The product description says the scale measures in .1oz increments. This is inaccurate as the scale measures in 1 pound increments. Had I known that, I might not have ordered it, but will have to make due with it as is...not paying to have it shipped back. Other than that, scale seems to be just as described...rugged, durable and convenient.

As Administrator of a rural emergency food bank, space is really an issue. The Pelouze scales (we purchased 2) offer an efficient, space-saving way to weigh all our incoming food drive donations. They are lightweight and the locking weigh totaling feature suits our needs. The scales are easily moved from location to location as needed. The 2 Pelouze scales have replaced an obsolete and rather cumbersome feed store scale that took up precious space in our facility (really an antique worth considerable $). Definitely a sound investment for our food bank.

I have always wanted this product when I first saw it at my brother's place many years ago. It's accurate and very convenient especially for travelers like me. Since airlines have restrictions to the weight of the luggage, it's always good to have this weight scale. This is one of the best inventions as far as I am concerned.

Although a bit larger than I expected, for just under $55 it definitely was a good choice for my daily shipping needs. This scale is functional, durable, portable and goes up to 250 lbs. It is very solidly built. The lock down tab is great for those boxes too large to read the numbers while resting on it. It adjusts back to zero easily, but doesn't move from zero much at all, even when often moving it to different locations in the building . I really am happy with it with one BIG exception. The fine print description (from Shopping.com) stated "made in USA" which was my deciding factor on to go with this model. The last 2 lines on actual manufacturer's label says:
"Distributed by Dymo, Stamford CT
2009 Stamford C.T. made to our exact specifications in China "
My ultimate mission was as long as I had to make a new purchase, that I would buy "Made in the USA". NOT happy about that.

We have one here in the shipping department at work that I use for shipping UPS packages. It's probably 5-7 years old and has seem some hard usage. To this day it still functions reliably. Accuracy is pretty good, though I wouldn't trust it for anything under 5lbs. For that, a light duty postage scale is much more accurate.

The entire case is stamped steel, so it's very robust. The electronics in low end shipping scales tend to be flaky and go bad after a while. This thing is built to last many years.
