I don't normally add a review when there is already four reviews but when I was trying to decide whether or not to but this album those four reviews didn't really help. Every review so far either claims it's album of the year or a horrible mess. Rolling Stone magazine said it was an album "To Buy Now." I'm not a slave to Rolling Stone magazine but sometimes they get it right (like they did with Nada Surf's Let Go). So I was set on a task of researching this album and I found it hard to find the truth mixed in these reviews. The truth is it's a good album. It's a strong first outting which is hard to do with a double album. The most comprable artist I can relate Benji Hughes to is the Magnetic Fields. It's somewhat of a stretch but he also reiminds me of Sea Change era Beck with some electronic beats and a little pep. If those comparesons sound good to you, check out this album. It's not album of the year but it's a well crafted strong album.

This is a fantastic album worth the price for a double disc. Its a debut artists but watch out for this one cause it could climb the charts. it sounds a lot like Beck with hints of Beatles, Eels, Notwist and even the Kinks. Check out "Tight Tee Shirt" "So Well" and "Vibe So Hot" and you'll get an idea of what I am talking about. There are a lot of slower building songs too. I love this record and would reccomend it to anyone.

This is a masterpiece, packed with real beautiful beats and lyrical genius. Pop songs that make you feel, dance, groove, laugh, and more. Dark comedy (Why Do These Parties...), laments (Waiting For an Invitation, Love is a Razor), zaniness (The Mummy) and sheer musical genius (Jubalee) make this my favorite record of 2008-2009.

Bits of Leonard Cohen, Harry Nilsson, and 21st century pop, to be sure; but all Benji Hughes, marking this iconoclast as one of the best, and most original going. It would be a shame not to experience this.

This double album is Benji Hughes only release on a commercial label. Hughes is a gifted songwriter. He makes great use of humor, for example in the song "You Stood Me Up", you can't but laugh at the lyrics. Where else will we hear about bronchitis as an excuse for being left waiting. And with the plaintive chorus of "You Stood Me Up", this song cannot be taken too seriously. In addition to clever lyrics, the melodies will get your toes tapping with a strong percussion line that supports the tuneful guitars and keyboards.

Benji Hughes is definitely a party animal and after listening to this double-disc debut album (mostly) devoted to love and angst, he's also proven to be somewhat of a Cassanova.

This album is a lot of fun to listen to. It is a very unique blend of Indie-esque back woods rock and hip-hop with a twist of funk. It's a fantastic sound that is uniquely Benji Hughes. I find the sound very admirable and bold, because it follows few guidelines. This is very honest music that's not particularly intended for any audience per say. This is perhaps the definition of art. Mr. Hughes created the album not to sell, but because he is an artist and music is his medium.

I only give it 3/5 stars because I found the album to have a set theme for the first 4 or so songs and then several subsequent ones, but overall it abandoned this theme. In other words, some of the songs didn't mesh well with the overall album. I wish it had been a single disc of the songs that belonged. If that were the case, it would've gotten 5/5 from me for sure. Listen and you'll agree.

This album was highly recommended by the Rolling Stone magazine. It's a very eclectic album with a little bit of everything so depending on your taste there will always be some good and some bad. But overall this is an interesting album.

One of the best live shows I've seen in a while!!! This is a must have album. The whole band is incredible, the lyrics are sick, and the beats are amazing. If you don't listen to Benji Hughes then you don't know music!!!

I've read mixed reviews of his recordings, but overall very entertaining. His live show is a must see. (And speaking of Prince, don't miss his cover of "Purple Rain."
