How to pick the right size kennel for your dog
When it comes to kennels, size matters. Whether you select a plastic or a wire kennel, if it’s too small, your dog will not be comfortable. On the other hand, if the kennel is too large, house training may not be effective, as your pet may go to the bathroom on one side and sleep on the other. To properly size your dog for a kennel, measure him from the top of his head to the floor and from the tip of his nose to the base of his tail. The height of the kennel should be 1-2 inches taller than your pet when they are standing and sitting down, and there should only be enough room for your pet to stand up, turn around, sit and lie down.

I purchased the size Intermediate to ship my corgi domestic. The kennel came with metal screws and plastic nuts which were approved by American Air Cargo. It fits my corgi who is 28" lengh and 27 pounds perfectly, there is still room for him to stay comfortable. I have emailed Petmate to ask why didnt they make all metal hardwares instead of metal screw n plastic nuts:
"Thank you for your inquiry regarding traveling. The Crate or kennels that we manufacture do come with the hardware. While our products are designed to meet USDA guidelines for pet travel, each airline can then have its own specifications as to what styles they will accept.
In recent years, we have seen some of the airlines request apparatuses be all metal. However, our units which secure with metal screws and plastic wingnuts, which contain metal inside are currently purchased by many of the major airlines. Here are a few of the airlines which currently purchase kennels from us.
Alaska, American, Delta, and United are currently receiving the metal screw and plastic wingnut. Should the airline your travel with require something with an "all metal" design then you can contact www.PetTravelStore.com at 877-241-0184 for this type of connector.
As aprecaution, we always recommend that you check with your airline well in advance of your travels to learn about their individual requirements since each airline can have their own specifications which we would not be aware of"
