These doors are just right.

That said, when you get up any kind of speed with everything on there the top of the window is going to pull away from the door frame. It's going to pull away a lot -- I can stick my whole hand easily through the gap. There is not a blessed thing you can do about it. It is unfortunate and annoying.

But let's face it: if you wanted quiet comfort you'd leave the hard top and the full metal power window doors on there. You buy these doors because your wife won't ride with you unless you've got some doors on.

You shouldn't really be planning to drive around with the top 'window' portions on anyway. You can't limit their swing, so they smack the (after market) mirrors every time you open the door. Just rock the doors and keep the windows in the back. I have a 'Little Passengers' third-row seat, and all four windows still fit nicely behind it. I get to be the guy enjoying the sunshine and fresh air but I don't have to be the guy soaking wet and driving home in a downpour. I can put them on any time it rains, but I usually don't need to.

The ability to completely remove the doors in a matter of seconds is also totally worth it. Sometimes the door latches pop open driving down the highway -- especially when I first put these on. These are totally expensive -- just like every other accessory you put on your Jeep. The amount of fitting and installation required is high for the crazy amount these cost, but if you follow the instructions it takes 45 minutes and you're done. I do wish the pins were threaded for lock-nuts because at this price I'm amazed no one has tried to steal them yet. Locking the doors would secure them but I hate toting the extra key.Read more ›

I like to drive my Jeep doorless or with half-doors whenever the weather permits. And, of course, while off-roading, I don't want to risk damaging my factory doors (again) and prefer an open view of the ground to check tire placement. But taking-off and putting-on the factory full doors is a huge pain in the butt, and where do you store the full doors when you're at an unsecured trail head?

Soft doors give me some protection from the rain and cold when needed, and otherwise fit easily in the back cargo area of my JK 4-door, along with the panels from my aftermarket soft top (from another manufacturer). And they do provide the bare minimum protection from the elements. But they are far from an ideal solution:

* They are impossible to adjust for a good seal.
* Rain will drip in around the top of the doors. It doesn't get on the seats, which is the important factor for me.
* Wind causes them to bow out and flap. Driving faster than 40 MPH requires the front windows to be unzipped.
* The latches are absolutely horrible.
* You have to pull the top-forward corner of the rear doors out when closing or they get stuck in the weatherstripping and won't latch

They are nowhere near the quality of the soft doors made for TJ's and YJ's. Unfortunately, there are no alternatives on the market. So bite the bullet and buy them, preferably used (as I did for the front doors) and chalk it up to another part of being a Jeep owner.

These doors are perfect for the summer time when my hard doors are stored away and the weather turns poor. They keep my vehicle free of animals when it's parked at night, and they keep the 45mph wind from beating on my too bad when the wind picks up in my desert town. Also helpful when you werent expecting rain. They are light and easy to manuever even when my wife or 10yo helps me install or remove them for the day.

The steel subframe is very well built. Not flimsy at all. The cover material is excellent. The same material used to build the Bestop soft tops. They need quite a bit of tweaking to get to sit flush against the Jeep. This baffles me. Jeep door openings don't vary when leaving the factory. Why can't Bestop get these to fit before they leave their facility? Especially when you're paying in the $400 range for these. That seems about $100 high to me, especially for a product that needs this much adjustment to fit correctly. Once they're adjusted, they're great though. Makes a Jeep the only vehicle to own in the summer.
