Bottom line - this is an excellent product for the price. Don't expect Bose-caliber quality from the sound, but if you're on a strict "do it yourself" budget like I was, this speaker family gets the job done. However, be ready to do some major wrestling with the plastic ceiling grips - I found many of them to be less-than-functionally engineered. Had to work with them quite a bit to get them to cooperate. But, overall, I'm happy with the outcome.

At first glance out of the box these speakers look very impressive. However, the so called easy mounting features have a lot to be desired when you start to install them. For one, there is no paperwork at all with these speakers so you have no templates or dimensions for the exact hole sizes for each speaker so you have to measure each one as best you can to cut them in. When you do, the mechanisms on the speakers which are supposed to make installation quick and easy work VERY poorly and lead to a lot of problems and because they are cheap plastic they strip out easily if they work as designed or at all. The whole thing leads to a very difficult installation which will take a novice or homeowner hours to accomplish. Since the speakers mount poorly you will invariably get a lot of vibration and poor sound quality from the loose fitting speakers. I gave this item three stars because the quality of the materials used in making the speakers themselves and because they look good (if you can get them mounted using the included method).

First thing first, I'm sure there a ton of name brand speakers out there which will give you graphs and charts showing why they have a superior product. However, having installed this system, and experienced the challenges and shortcomings of purchasing this product, I would purchase it again without hesitation.

The sound quality is quite impressive, both clear and crisp. Even without the subwoofer, the speakers produce an adequate amount of bass (full disclosure, I did purchase a Dynabox for each speaker, and I think that also plays a role in the audio quality.) Although a template is missing, I found making my own using the speaker grill as a template and tracing it onto a piece of cardboard (I used what was shipped with the speakers) aids in the placement and cutting of Sheetrock. The challenge of installing the subwoofer (I only used one) was using a 1"x4" to frame out a brace. This took some work, but I felt the speaker was a bit heavy to just expect the Sheetrock to support it. By reading the product description, one finds the subs are passive this requiring an additional amplifier (shout out to the idiot who rated this product poorly simply because they didn't bother to read this minor detail.) I placed a 10"x10" sheet of Dynamat I had sitting around behind the subwoofer to help with resonance, and I believe this made a noticeable difference in sound and vibration. Best in mind, the center speaker is HUGE! Very heavy and just very long. It produces amazing sound (I had to modify the Dynabox to accommodate its large size) and handles volume well into the upper limits.

So, even with the subwoofer amplifier, 200 ft of 16 gauge speaker wire, 7 Dynabox's, and these speakers, I have a pretty amazing surround sound system for less than $1200. Friends have wrongly assumed I paid 3x that amount, and I'm fine with that.
