My cat is a total snob, and has never even pretended to like cat nip.
Well, I am a big lover of Kong products, so I thought I would give it one more try, so I can be sure my cat is spoiled enough <sigh>!

While reading one review, the reviewer mentioned putting the toy IN the catnip. Well, that just made a light go on in my head. You see, I am new to this cat thing, and it never occurred to be something like this would work. Guess what?

My cat is finally playing with her toy!! Okay, so it was for 2 minutes. In this house it's a real miracle. I want to thank that reviewer for that awesome tip!

I am now going to leave a toy in the jar for a few days and see what happens. I will report back if something new occurs.

UPDATE 3/14/14: Keeping the cat toys in the jar has changed everything. What a great idea. Now when I take out a toy, I at least
Get the kitty's attention for a little while, and I can enjoy her acting silly with her cat nip. Great fun!!

Hello,
I purchased Kong Catnip to try something different. That may have been a mistake. My cats loved this stuff! However, here is the problem; when I ran out and purchased another brand (more in a tub & cheaper) and put it on their tennis balls, they ignored them. Their tennis balls have been sitting in the same place for 4 days with the cheaper cat nip on them. I have 3 Catnip Snobs! No, I don't run the house...it's theirs. I'm just their servent. Aren't we all? I'm going to buy more of Kong Catnip. My kitties really enjoy it.

My cats have sampled quiet a few catnips and will turn down any catnip that isn't up to their standards. The cheaper catnips at the store do not have as strong as a smell and they turn their nose up at it. We tried this after their former favorite brand cosmic catnip was no long sold at our petstore. We started buying this brand and noticed the difference in smell and texture. I can open this container and smell it immediately and the cats will come running into the room even if they were sleeping in another room. This catnip not only has dried crushed leaves but the little buds and occasional piece of stem in it. My cats love that, they lick and eat the leaf bits and buds and love to lick and chew on the little stem bits in it and it helps clean the plaque on their teeth :). The screw lid container keeps the catnip very fresh and keep the cats from tearing the container open like they would do with the cosmic catnip. There is quiet a bit in the container and will last quiet a while even if your cats like to eat the catnip. They love the little paper toy that comes in the container and even last quiet a while considering how destructive my boy kitty is. The only catnip they prefer over this is some homegrown freshly dried organic catnip.

If you go to your big chain petstore you can smell the difference between this catnip and the others. This is the only catnip bought from a store that include buds and stems rather than just leaves. You wouldn't think cats would like to have little stem bits in their catnip but they do love chewing them.

My kitties give this catnip A+

In case you don't know this, some cats have the "catnip gene" and some do not. That is the source of the desired reaction from catnip.
That being said, the quality of the nip absolutely makes a difference, as some cats who have previously shown no affinity for the herb, suddenly react when exposed to better stuff. I believe Kong must package theirs pretty quickly after drying since it seems the concentration of nepetalactone (the active substance) is higher in their product. The fresher the nip, the bigger the buzz! The price per ounce is also better than I can get at PetSmart or Wally World so it's a no-brainer.

The toy that came in the last container was fantastic. A crinkly little ball of material that made irresistable crinkly noises was an instant hit and a nice suprise to find.
Aside for growing it yourself, this is the best deal around.

Be very careful with this catnip! I took my cat to the vet because his breath just starting smelling like death. One of the stick pieces had lodged in his gum and caused a horrible infection. $81 vet bill and now I have to dose him with antibiotics twice a day for a week. I had not notice how many twigs and sharp little pieces were mixed in the catnip. The waste disposal charge is for the sharp stick. See photos.

I've turned my cat into an addict. She goes absolutely nuts for this stuff (must be hydroponic). Instantly turns her from a sweet lovable kitten into a drunken, hyper, don't mess with me or I'll nail you tasmanium devil. All in good fun of course.
