I own this cable and like it enough to sing it's praises. I have unsatisfactorily owned death valley cables, George L, Evidence audio (way overrated), and many entry level cables. If you are seeking a good basic inexpensive cable i would recommend livewire elite. If you are seeking the absolute best and are chasing a true improvement in tone. Buy this cable right here.

Manufacturers talk about cables "not coloring" the sound and such. But really that is BS, because every cable does make your rig sound a little different for the better or worse. I have found the main difference is some cables sound more "open" and expansive like the shape of the sound is wider. Others sound more "tight" and compressed. I have seen extremes to both of these. The evidence audio lyric which is a 200$+ cable is the most open sounding cable i have every heard.

I would go so far as to say using this cable in favor of an average run of the mill cable is about the equivalent of going from stock pickups to a pair of Seymour duncans or Dimarzio's. Or going from Duncans & Dimarzio's to something hand scatter wound like Bare Knuckle or Lollar, Wolfetone or WCR, It's not like changing amps, or even changing tone. It is noticeable overall improvement to your primary tone that is not apples to oranges. It's just straight up better. I am a tone chaser and a gearhead, and i feel no desire to try other cables since i got these. The holy grail has been found for cables. For pickups, guitars, speakers and amps the quest goes on for me.

It's true, you will want to turn your knobs all over again if you use Monster cables. It's hard to appreciate until you start looking for that sound again that you want. Once you realize you can finally use some EQs on your preamp that were fizzy with Monster cables, you will be at peace with the price. The tube noises are less harsh, the pick attack no longer is the best thing you will hear but the note following will sound warmer. The harmonics don't quite seem as bright as the Monster cable but you don't get that crackling sizzle when you aren't attacking the crap out of your guitar. You can play like you are supposed to instead of how your cables force you. I would stil keep Monster cables around for lead guitar parts or overdubs but definitely not for rhythm tracks any more and most likely will never go back to Monster cables just for a squeely harmonic dive part. A little less glassy and bright than Monster, but less scratchy and annoying and less noise. It's like the difference I got from adding the Furman PL PLus DMC 15, it tames the noise and brings the signal out. The Monster cables do have a digital sound, hard to explain. It is cool sometimes but you wont miss it.

I thought the little sticker on the box about having to re-EQ/setup your tone path was a joke. The sticker is very true to the "warning" so to speak. I've used Monster cables from the basic series to the higher end premiums in this range. I've also tried various other cables from the likes of: Hosa, DiMarzio, ProCo, Live Wire, Planet Waves, and other various Mogami series. My main cable before this was a Mogami 2524 which does well for taking the signal from the output jack of the guitar to destination. I was looking for more in a cable per-say. I was seeing if possible if I could get more out of my rig, and guitars with perhaps a better cable. Enter the Mogami Platinum series.

This cable has changed how I view cables from now and on. I liked the first one I bought so much I bought another few days afterwards wanting a cable outside the practice space for recording direct. The cable is superior for blocking out awful RF noise and other electrical interference that can invade the signal along the way with a non-Platinum cables. I noticed very shortly after A/Bing Plat vs my array of cables that simply put more highs, cleaner lows, tighter mids. The whole tone spectrum was more defined in a subtle yet noticeable way. Words like "fuller", "cleaner", "smoother" come to mind.

If you can spare to have one good cable make this it. I still use my 2524 Mogami to patch in between gear and for non-instrument related sources. Only thing I would have like to see is a braided jacket added to keep the cable from possible damage by something sharp or pointed. This could leave it more susceptible to piercings of the outer layer leaving it exposed to oxygen. It must also be said that with spending this kind of money on a cable care must be taken.

There's Mogami Platinum then there is everything else. I own two of these and they perform flawlessly, feel amazing in the hand, make absolutely no noise, and lose almost no dB in signal. Worth every penny and more. And not made in China like the rest of the crap out there.

I play 5-string basses with active (MusicMan) and passive (Tune pickups with a custom passive circuit) electronics. I also track with an American Standard Strat and a Japanese Tele with a Bigsby.

I can only say that it is a quiet cable. Working with an established engineer (with recording credits on international releases going back to the 1980s, I received a quite audible complaint about the body of my bass. "You put ukulele strings on that thing?"

I have this and another cable by Mogami. The Mogami is a very sterile cable but, in its sterility, also sucks some of the impact and low end, it seems like it is attenuating it intentionally! While not as bad as the "silver" line, still unacceptable when compared to my other studio cables. I reverted to my Carver-made "ProTone" cable marketed by Fender. A very flat cable that one can hear the difference in the most subtle of things.

When doing guitar tracks, I tried to go back to the Mogami (thinking that, during rehearsals, I liked the sound in the hall) and the same complaint. I ended up tracking with the ProTone for guitar too.

Bottom line, if you're not shrill and don't have anything but 12th fret shred, I think you'd do better with another company. I've since done more comparing of the Mogami to my homemade stage wires (Belden mic cable with dropped shields for noise elimination and better distance strength - I hate wireless) and found the Mogami line just not very appealing in spite of its price.
