Purchased for my daughter's ovation shallow body guitar. We have numerous guitars, cases and gig bags. This one really impressed me. It is light weight like a gig bag, complete with back pack style straps and rip stop nylon outer covering, but is actually a hard shell case. The guitar is nestled securely. The only minor complaint is the cloth strip on the bottom inside of the case that is used to keep the lid from opening all the way back keeps getting in the way of the Zipper and probably will not last long. If that is the only proble we have, this is a great case.

When I bought this case for my new Ovation guitar, I thought I was purchasing a basic gig bag type case. But much to my surprise when I opened the box up, it is more like a standard case which has a gig bag type exterior. I'm not saying you can drive a car over the thing like you could with a real hard shell case. But this case provides a solid, form fitting, plush interior that is going to provide plenty of protection for the guitar. It has the fairly standard storage box located below the neck position of the guitar inside the case. And it includes several zippered pockets on the outside of the case as well. The only potential problem I can see is that the case opens/closes with a full length zipper around the perimeter of the case instead of the more standard snap-lock type closures. I've only had the case a few days now, and I haven't had any issues with the zipper, but it just seams like it has the potential to snag up and cause problems in the future. I'll update this review if I end up having any problems with it. But regardless, this is a heck of a case for the price, and I'm glad I purchased it.

This is what I would call and "Hybrid" hard/soft case.
It has all the features a soft case (gig bag) has:
* straps to carry it on your back
* several zipper pockets
* light enough, doesn't add a lot of weight to carry it around
And also has most of the features of a hard case:
* Very good instrument protection level/shock absortion
* Handle to carry it on your hand
* Internal box compartment to store stuff
* Soft plush material inside

The core material is not wood or anything like that, it is actually some kind of foam that provides a very good fit for your instrument and also handles socks and bumps superbly.
Very light also, as I mentioned before.

Even though this is suposed to fit an Ovation medium-depth guitar, I had some issues trying to close the zipper with my gutiar inside. However all it takes is to unscrew a few screws to adjust the tightness of the external nylon cover and screw them back again into the new position.
The material allows the screw to be inserted without the need to drill a new hole. Driving the screw will create the new hole, and that did the trick perfectly!

Purchased this case and I like the looks; it's very durable (basically a hard case with a rip-stop fabric covering); and has 3 different zippered pouches with an inside compartment under the neck; but the zipper wanted to "hang" on me in several places! Not to mention the backpack straps are kinda decorative in my opinion.

Boxed it back up and returned. Just got my 8117-0 Ovation hard case and love it!

Bought this for my Applause by Ovation AE128-HB Acoustic Electric Guitar. I had it shipped to my APO. It arrived in eight days! Perfect fit and nicely padded. Much lighter then my Dreadnaught Case. The clearance is a little high when using the shoulder straps. You'll need to duck down to get through doorways.

It was wrapped well enough to survive the USPS and Military mail systems.

Comments about the small strap inside are true. You need to be careful to stick the strap inside the case before you close it. The zipper will catch on it every time! Plenty of external pockets large enough for several books and accessories; like amp cables.

The case definitely fits the shallow design Ovation guitar (e.g. AE128); however, the case itself is far from shallow because it is essentially the same thickness as an Ovation hard-case. I was looking for a thin guitar as well as a thin case to go with it. This product is a standard size case with a lot of padding that form-fits a thin guitar. It's not the end of the world for me and it meets the desired weight criteria, but I think anyone looking for light-weight AND thin case should know.

The case does its job. You put the guitar in, it comes out in one piece. Unfortunatly the case starting falling apart a week after I got it. The screws holding the fabric onto the hard case portion constantly fall off and get lost and the guitar doesnt even sit correctly in the case. I've double checked the my Ovation Applause is a super shallow and theres a good inch between the back of the guitar and the bottom of the case. The small strap that keeps the lid of the case from opening too far always gets in the way of the zipper. I'd find another case if you're in the market for quality. If you want to keep your guitar from getting banged up on a plane or travel, this does the job.

I bought this because I did not want the regular thin gig bag, I wanted to keep my guitar well protected but did not want to get the big hard case, reading the reviews I thought it was harder than the regular gig bag but not hard enough and padded enough to replace a hard case, I was wrong, when the airline refused to allow me to carry it in the cabin, I had to check it and wished I had had a hard case instead, It went perfect though, the case protected it and I have my guitar safe, also of course the airline handled it with kid gloves. It is really nice, it is true, it is the size of a hard case but it is super light weight, It has shoulder straps and you can also carry it with one hand. My AE128-5 filts nicely and perfectly inside.
