Yes, like other reviewers have said, this ink does die out a little fast but that is understandable seeing as how it is a small ink cartridge. People on here are starting to blame Amazon for some reason which is weird. I don't really have a problem with this ink but I do have a problem with my printer. It tells you that the ink has died out and you need to replace it way earlier than you actually need to. Don't pay attention to your printer or the levels it shows on your HP ink level chart on your computer. Don't change it until the actual ink starts to fade on your prints.

I was a loyal HP customer for 12 years. My old printer from 1998 was getting long in the tooth, but still working great. However, I wanted a printer that would have wireless capability, print photos better, and would allow me to scan. So I bought a Photosmart Plus, which takes this ink. This ink is truly horrible. The estimates of how long it will last are WAY off. I don't print very much and I'm already on my 4th cartridge, one of which was an "XL" and supposed to last through 800 sheets. LOL!! I'm getting NOWHERE NEAR the estimated 250 sheets per regular and 800 sheets per XL cartridge. Not even close. Around the time I bought the printer I bought a ream of 750 sheets of paper which still isn't half gone. I have printed a few photos, but I was having errors when printing photos for a long time, so I have printed less than 20 4x6 photos the entire time I've owned the printer. In all honesty, it's probably cheaper to have photos professionally printed than to pay for this ink to print them! This ink is an insulting scam, not to mention an environmental nightmare. I really hope a competitor comes forward that can make great printers and efficient ink cartridges that aren't designed to be as wasteful as possible. Once I find that company, I will trash my HP printer (even though it is brand new) and these horrendous ink cartridges. I would MUCH rather pay a higher price up front for a quality printer, then to constantly find myself low on ink and unable to print anything, and throwing away cartridge after cartridge just to print a few recipes, mailing labels, and google map directions.

When I installed the ink cartridge, I got a message saying "Cartridge for older generation of printer". I checked the compatibility lookup tool and it said "Yes" it's compatible. I am very disappointed. There is no indication what version cartridge they are selling, until you install it and it does not work.

The HP 564 Original Black is really inexpensive to buy. In addition, they do a fairly decent job of printing. However, I seem to be replacing these cartridges way, way too often. I am experiencing roughly 50-75 prints before the printer tells me it's time to replace the cartridge. HP advertizes up to 250 yield. I'm getting nowhere near that claim.

Overall, this product is horrible.

And, I refuse to purchase the more expensive "XL" version (3-4 times the cost of the non-"XL" version), even though HP claims they last 3-4 times longer than the original. HP advertizes up to 800 yield on these "XL" versions. I don't believe their first claim of 250 yield, so what makes you think I will believe their second claim.

I purchased a HP 6380 printer last January & although I am reasonably happy with the print quality & ease of use, the output from the ink cartridges is abysmal. A standard HP 564 black ink cartridge is supposed to produce 250 sheets (according to the information on the box) I have been getting 35-50 sheets of standard text (no block color printing). I have spent considerably more than the original purchase price in the last 10 months alone on ink for what I consider to be light home use. Needless to say, I will not be buying an HP printer again in the future.

I ordered an ink , cartridge-- it was supposed to come in retail packaging, but it didn't. I tried to use it anyway, but it won't work, because it isn't a real HP cartridge. HP cartridges have a little gold chip on the back, but this is missing it, which means my printer doesn't recognize it and reports it's missing or broken. I don't think I can return it because I opened it and got it a few months ago, but I'm going to try. I got ripped off by Andrew's Genuine Supplies.

The reason I purchased this particular item was that I wanted exactly what I would have gotten in any standard office supply store. I'm very wary of printer ink products, as the possibility getting for getting grey market or otherwise sub-standard ink is rampant. The item arrived in a standard Amazon brown box, but it was just the ink, shrink-wrapped with a few stickers on it. The ink looks legitimate so I'm choosing not to return it, but it's not what I ordered. I expect more from Amazon.

The seller was great. Item arrived in time, in HP packing, etc, just as expected.

They stopped manufacturing these HP 564 cartridges in 2010 according to an HP press release, however, and printers made since then are NOT compatible with this HP 564. It looks IDENTICAL to the HP 564 black cartridges one buys today, but apparently something about them is different, because, just as others reported, I got the dreaded, "older cartridge" error on my printer screen.
