I purchased these because I have bought them in the past and they were the only bags I could find that were unscented.
My local stores no longer carry them, so I was thrilled to find them at Amazon, even though they are pricey. I received my order (the 6-pack of bags), and was VERY disappointed to find that they are now scented. I cannot take the smell of the perfume and cannot have them in my house. They should really state on the packages that they are scented. No more Hefty bags for me.

We have a 45-pack of these. They are grey plastic, 13G (49L), recycled plastic, tall kitchen trash bags.

They tear.

The body of them isn't TOO bad. Worse than average, but it's tolerable.

The real problem is around the top. There's an embedded drawstring, and about 1/2 inch down from there, the bags always tear.

If I hold it by a quarter of the rim (big hands, bunched up) or spread out, they tear.

If I hold the trash bag up in order to wiggle the trash so it spreads out and the bag can close, the rim tears off.

If I use the drawstrings to close the bag, the rim tears off.

Then, trying to re-tie below the tear, one out of 5 times the bags tear again. I've had bags tear trying to double-bag over the top.

These are the worst bags I have ever used in 35 years. They give a bad name to recycled goods and a bad name to Hefty brand.

Seriously, buy some other type of bag. Anything else but these. They are frustrating and can lead to mess because they tear.

UPDATE
We contacted customer service and they apologized. They asked for the box and a few of the problem bags to send to the product manager. In exchange, they sent us reimbursement for postage plus several coupons for free hefty products.

We went ahead and used up the rest of the roll so as not to waste, and when we got to the last third of the roll, things got better.

It's most likely we got a bad batch, but we've since used Steel-Sak and the non-recycled white plastic bags with decent results.

My local government-operated trash pick-up service recently mandated separation of recycled trash from ordinary garbage. This has required me to use two different trash containers for curbside pick-up and inside my residence.

To effect the difference inside my house, I now have two large waste baskets. One is lined with a regular white trash bag (for ordinary garbage) purchased from a local retail store. The other is lined with the item subject to this review -- a gray Hefty Renew bag (for recycled trash) -- purchased from Amazon.

I bought a supply of these Hefty Renew bags from Amazon because I have been unable to locate anything similar at local retail stores.

These trash bags are of high quality and adequate size. They fit well into the waste basket. I am pleased with the purchase.

I saw these at the store one type and was so glad to find a recycle garbage bag but then couldn't find them again until I saw them on Amazon. I purchased them and will continue to purchase them. I can not wait until I finish my roll of the stretch one (which, by the way, do tear) and use the recycle ones. I also appreciate the fact they are grey and not white. I prefer ones you can't see through.

In the hamster wheel of modern, post-industrial life, we should at the very least be choosing products that can possibly help the planet. Do big things if you can: adopt children and pets, remote-adopt an elephant or tiger. I try to do what I can in little ways. Does this actually help? I hope so. Though it might be a wash, (producing these and then me shipping them to my door instead of buying in the store). It feels like it's helping though, so I buy them.

***Oh, the trash bags are fine. This will be my 2nd purchase of the 6 pack of these, and I have zero complaints. In fact, I really like their grey color. Goes well with all the stainless steel in the kitchen.

These are a really great compromise between traditional and recycled trash bags. They're strong like traditional trash bags (not yard waste strong, but strong enough that I've never had one tear or stretch on me), but they've got a content of 44% post-consumer and 21% pre-consumer recycled plastic. At something like 15 cents a piece from Amazon with Subscribe-and-Save, they're also a good deal.

I bought a huge box of these during a subscribe and save. They hold up well and it takes a lot to rip them. They obviously will rip on sharp objects or pulling it wrong with a lot of weight but other than that they hold up. Also I haven't had as much of an issue of the trash bags leaking fluids.

I have been purchasing these trash bags exclusively for several years. The fit my trash can exactly, have never leaked into the can or on the way to the barrels. I am never out of this kind of bags because I don't want to go back to an inferior product by running out and having to grab something else. They are thick enough not to tear and I like that they are somewhat environmentally friendly.
