On a recent trip to New York, I purchased a similar bowl for my yoga teacher, for our yoga class. Having practiced with that bowl for several days, and having enjoyed the meditative practice, I nevertheless gifted that bowl to my yoga teacher and class.

But I wanted that bowl!!! Sooo, it being the holidays, my birthday, and New Year, I went onto Amazon and found THIS bowl, which is a very similar, hand-hammered bowl. I received it today, and I like THIS bowl better than the one I purchased in New York... This bowl has rather complex tones, and I can bring out both high and low voices, depending on how I work the mallet. I am VERY pleased with this bowl... of course, as this is a handmade object, not all will be the same. Also, while the advertised bowl was pictured with a wooden stand (my bowl from NYC came with a "cushion"), this bowl did not come with that stand; hence the 4/5 rating rather than a 5/5 rating.

But I am very pleased with my purchase. And please bear in mind when purchasing a singing bowl--most are machine-formed, not hand-hammered, as is this bowl. While the machined bowls may produce a great tone, personally, I wanted one which was hand-hammered, to capture the spirit and intention of the Nepalese artisan.

This product was not exactly as pictured. The bowl in the photo has an antique look, including the wooden "peg." The one I received was not the same color hue, it has a rougher finish and the wooden peg is not finished. The one in the photo has a stained and finely sanded finish. In general it's appearance is not the same but the tone is pleasant.

This singing bowl is perfect as a starter singing bowl especially if you are planning on adding more to your kit. Amazing sound and perfect size. Nice handmade quality and antique finish to it. It also comes with a neat little stand for your bowl. The only thing that could have been slightly better would be the wooden striker that is included. Mine was a little dinged up, but it's the bowl itself that matters more.

No, really. When I got it, I could not make it sing. Since I was inexperienced, I figured it was a technique thing. But I borrowed another bowl, and had no trouble making that one sing. Then I got another one, and that one sang, too.

This one, no dice. I don't know what the deal is, since it looks like the picture, is metal and bowl-shaped. But it doesn't sing. The tone when struck is not great.

I gave it an extra star because it's kinda cool looking.

I received this bowl today. The sound is very crisp and resonant. A reviewer said the aesthetic doesn't quite match up to the picture. I have to agree the one I received has a more antique finish which I prefer it. The shape has no major distortions. The wooden mallet is fine although somewhat more detailed than pictured. I was disappointed with the arrival of this product as the singing bowl and wooded better or peg both arrived looking much different than in the photograph. The bowl shows as a shiny metal, while it arrived quite worn and scratched. The wooden beater shown as a dark stained color and like new, while it arrived very light worn, dirty and used looking. This was not my expectation nor hope when purchased.
