Directions

Cooking Instructions: For a savory hot breakfast cereal, bring 3 cups water and 1/2 teaspoon salt to boil. Add 1 cup cereal, turn heat down, cover and cook for 10 minutes. Makes 2 1/2 cups. Serve with honey or brown sugar and milk. Also great with added fruit and/or nuts. Microwave Instruction: In large bowl, combine 1/4 cup Bob's Red Mill 10 Grain Cereal and 3/4 cup water. Cover and microwave on high for 3 to 5 minutes. Let stand for 2 minutes. Makes 1 serving.

I was on a mission to reduce my cholesterol through healthy eating and improve the quality of my breakfast choices. I've tried several of Bob's Red Mill cereals and they are ALL absolutely fantastic! This cereal has a delicious flavor and creamy texture. I usually add some dried fruit and raw almonds to give it another flavor dimension. Even by itself it is superior to "quick" oats and other grocery store breakfast choices. On a side note I enjoy supporting the little guys and a simple Google search will show you what a good company Bob's Red Mill is. Kudos!

I generally don't eat this alone, but add it to oatmeal for fuller and more complex texture. Very good there, but the best use is in bread! I replace about 1/4 of the flour with this, and we get this dense and delicious bread. (I do use a little gluten, too, to get the bread to rise.)

So I've been trying to eat a much healthier diet lately. I've put myself on 1500 calorie limit and I've been looking for something to eat in the mornings besides an egg on rye toast. Everything else always seems so full of sugar and eventually unsatisfying. I recently bought hull less barley from this company and while perusing their website I saw that they had a hot breakfast cereal that wasn't sweetened.

Lately I've been eating reduced sugar oatmeal on those days I wanted a change from my usual egg and toast and honestly I haven't really been pleased with the taste. So I decided to take a gamble on the 10 grain oats. I've found as I've been dieting foods with protein and fiber tend to fill me up and stave off any hunger pangs I would usually have eating these fewer calories. So I figured if I could stomach this cereal it would be a good addition to my diet as it has both fiber and protein.

Well, I just finished my first bowl and I had to come write this review. I haven't had cream of wheat in ages and I forgot how much I loved it. And this is probably the most flavorful and healthiest cream of wheat type cereal I've ever had. You can eat it as a savory cereal but I put a little diabetic no sugar maple syrup in it and I have to say it was the best hot cereal I've ever had. And the price, is amazing. I actually think if you get the 4 pack that it might come out to be cheaper than even the generic store brand instant oatmeal. One serving is 1/4 cup dry and there are approximately 15 servings per bag. I actually cooked a full cup dry and while the bag says this makes 2 1/2 cups cooked cereal I ate a cup cooked and still had a bit more than 2 cups cooked left over. It's super filling and absolutely delicious. I just found my new favorite breakfast food.

Being whole grains cut rather than rolled, the cereal remains texturally strong, almost crunchy. I like that fine for many uses, but I would soak it in liquid ingredients for awhile before finishing recipes if I wanted a softer texture for something, say pancakes. I have been using the muffin recipe on the package as my base formula with consistent and delicious success. Coconut and peanut oil substitute magnificently for the butter. Take into consideration when substituting for flour that the gluten content from the wheat makes bread and cake hold together, as do egg and, to some degree, dairy. This cereal will not contribute enough glutinous material to compensate. If you sub something for wheat flour, you will need to add more egg or other binding material. Do your research if you do not already know how to make such substitutions, or add gluten if you just want to use less glutenous flours, e.g. spelt or buckwheat. Happy baking.

Oh, and it's a tasty alternative to only eating oatmeal all the time. Add some to steel cut oats for a more complex flavor.

This was a set of four bags of cereal. It comes in a sturdy carton which holds the four bags and is good for storage. I use this mix as an ingredient in breads but mostly I eat it as hot cereal. I make it in the crockpot once a week, and reheat what I eat for breakfast. Super nutrition, super easy.

This is a much better price than I can get at the grocery store. I am completely satisfied.

This is great tasting, full bodied organic cereal. The thing is though it tastes very plain. I suggest mixing cinnamon spices with it, brown sugar (as mentioned), nuts, apples, and a little bit of milk..
