Built my terrarium a few days before my frogs came with 6 inches of soil with moss and live plants. The background never occurred to me until I saw this tile. I open it and its huge at about an inch thick. How am I going to get this in? Well being new to amphibians I have no idea what the hell I am doing. I had to cut about 2" off the side and scoop out dirt. I made a huge mess of my pristine landscape. The tile bows into the tank horribly but a few clamps and silicone would fix that. The next time I remodel the terrarium I will install the correct way. I silicon-ed two mushroom ledges onto the tile which looks awesome and my little Whites love them. What a disaster, but if installed correctly the first time, then silicon into place with clamps everything should be fine. I like the looks of the tile also its just a bit thick as it covers the tube holes for my mister sprays.

Once I positioned this within the tank the frogs were ecstatic, looks real, feels great, glue holds pretty well. Product is easy to clean. Due note that in terrariums that house a waterfall with a decent water level, the cork and bark will warp a bit. Personally I liked it because it made it look more like an actual tree trunk in the tank, negative side to the warping is with tree frogs they will constantly get behind it and hide for days...the crickets will go back there so the frogs have everything they need.

The look of this product is nice and my crested gecko seems to enjoy it; however, it is cut short (width) and since this board isn't exactly "flat" I worry that my little guy may find his way behind the background. It does seem like it will hold up better to washing than the foam products exo terra uses for backgrounds though. In the short time I had the exo terra, the foam background colors faded and were muddied by washing.

I ordered mine because the price was far better than the only local retailer in my area had to offer. For some reason the 18"x24" size is only at one of dozens of local stores. The one that was delivered is nice. The center of the piece has a relatively obvious strip glued from top to bottom. Glue is not exposed but some coloration from the inner tile/bark is visible. You really can't tell once it's completely syliconed in and you add some hanging plants or whatever. I may or may not have chosen this particular tile, but I had only 1 tile to choose from locally (in the 18x24 size). I have seen about a dozen of the 18x18 forest tiles in local stores, and about 15 to 20 percent of them aren't worthy of the price, usually due to sloppy gluing, a separated backing, visible glue, or sometimes what appears to be sap, but not in an attractive, natural way. The forest tile is a terrific idea and the product is good, as long as you get a good individual piece. Ideally, like your pet, you'll choose the one you like from a variety. I took the chance of ordering and was lucky. For forest critters like some geckos and frogs, the forest tile is infinitely better than the cheap painted foam that most of those kits come with, and definitely more natural than glass unless you have certain types of chameleons (which I recommend consulting an expert first). It fits into the 18x24 terrarium like a glove, leaving limited space for cords, but this was great for me because I had trouble with crickets getting behind the old foam backing and I still have barely enough room for the cord to my little water pump. Overall, I very very much recommend getting a forest tile backing to fit your terrarium, just beware/be careful about how you choose!

the product is great and fit my terrarium perfectly, i glued the edges to the sides of my terrarium so that frogs and crickets can not get behind it. UNFORTUNATELY it took a few returns before they shipped me one that was not moldy and covered in mildew inside of the packaging. I figured since this product is made for the hot, humid inside of a terrarium, it could handle a warm humid trip in a truck w/o growing mold. but other than the issues with shipping this product is great! the frogs love it and it ads another level of realism to the terrarium
