I got these after purchasing a different brand of strap locks for another guitar. The other locks have a release button directly in the center, and while I haven't had an accident with them yet I feel the release button's location could expose it to an unwanted release of the strap. Then I saw these and HAD to have them, I've bought them for every other guitar I own now. You have to SQUEEZE BOTH buttons on either side of the Ernie Ball locks to release them, which I feel is much safer. I also play Ernie Ball strings religiously and the visual appeal of these is phenomenal, they're gorgeous. So it was a win-win situation all around. As soon as I add a new guitar to my collection it gets these.

I have a Strat that with the OEM strap locks the screws continually loosened after each performance. Eventually, I would have stripped them out. I tried these instead. I've had them on about a year now and never had to tighten the screws. I have the original Strap Lock on another guitar and on occasion, it can be connected but not securely enough to stay on. I've never had that problem with these. The first thing I did when I got my next guitar was to buy another set. It's small money for an insurance policy that keeps your guitar on your shoulders and off the floor. You'll never have to worry about letting go or pushing your axe around and hanging off of your back again. They are well made and far easier to install than Strap Lock, which you have to put together with C-clips. I also had to drill my guitar with Strap lock and did not have to for either guitar with these.

When I bought my guitar I knew I had to get strap locks. But having spent a small fortune on the guitar, amplifier and other accessories I went with the cheapest I could find: the Dunlop plastic ones.

These are much better than those.

The straplocks come in a small ziplock bag and include screws and buttons and the snap-on locking caps themselves. Installation is fairly straightforward. My guitar is one of the more expensive Squire models ( Vintage Modified Stratocaster. I mention this because the more expensive non squire fender models may use different hardware). The one niggle I had during installation is that the Ernie Ball screws are longer and thinner. Since the original holes are slightly wider, there is a bit of play till you screw deeper than about ½ inch. It did still tighten firmly but I was still a little worried that the threads might eventually give.

My solution was to put a small bead of expanding glue and smear it along the first ½ inch of the screw kind of like you would thread a lock on a metal machine screw. That held the Ernie ball buttons more securely. I used a very small amount so it didn’t ooze out the top when I was tightening the locks. When I was done, they felt secure.

The strap side of the locks is in three parts: the decorative end cap, a large washer and a nut. You slide your strap onto the post on the cap, the strap is then sandwiched between the cap and the washer with the nut. Once done, the strap slides over the buttons on the guitar and latch similar to the sockets on a snap-on socket tool set.

It works very well and it’s hard to accidentally unlatch because you have to squeeze the catch on opposite sides to release the locking mechanism using two fingers.

These are very high quality, and most importantly, super easy installation! Unlike Schaller, they actually include the 2 screws to install them with, that are slightly fatter and longer than most stock strap button screws. Smart move EB! This made installation super easy. I just screwed them in and I was done, solid fit. With the Schallers, which I have on my other basses, I had to put toothpicks and wood glue in the holes first to fatten them up to work with the stock screw.

I really like the buttons to disengage the locks on these. They are very simple to use and they are a little easier to connect/disconnect than the Schallers. One thing I do like about the Schallers is that they have a "half moon" curve on the lock where the bass rests in the strap. Instead, these go straight into the middle of the button which may put more strain on and/or loosen the screw over time. Also, if you were to have a false lock, or it became disengaged, the Schallers would still be holding the bass because of the half moon while this may come out completely. If these do indeed hold up over time, it will prove to be an excellent purchase.

I am not a guitarist. I am a musical instrument collector who recently restored an old Sears Silvertone acoustic guitar to be an accent decoration in my music room. After a painstaking and original makeover, it didn’t feel right just shoving the little plastic strap holder back into the redone body, so when I had a chance to pick up these overlarge, shiny strap pins, I jumped at it.

The strap holder was easy to install and it looks great. Although it will not be used for playing the guitar, it sits firmly in the body and is ready to take the strap holder clip at a moment’s notice. (Photo 1.) The clips snap on and off easily if I ever find a strap worthy to attach to this guitar. (Photo 2 shows a clip on the holding pin.) In the meantime, the bright silver finish looks like an accessory that was designed just to brighten up the guitar. I couldn’t be happier with the professional finishing touch it lends to my objet d’art. (Photo 3.) I might also mention that these come in a “stay fresh” resealable pouch, in case you want to remove and store them (or for some other reason).

Since I don’t have anything else to compare it to, I can’t tell if these are top of the line or just run of the mill, but they sure look and feel secure and function great. Their sophisticated look and brilliance is a five star feature on my guitar.
