These are great if you like a fat snare sound. They allow you to use a thicker resonant head and a lower tuning but retain snare response. You can also still crank it up. Very versatile, really opened up my maple snare to many more sounds.

I replaced smaller strand snare wires with these Puresound Super 30 wires - what a welcomed and relaxed difference! I've been looking for a "fat" snare sound, these definitely headed the effort in the right direction. And, I don't have to "kill" the drum to get a full sound out of it. I'll add that I've incorporated a couple of other elements into getting the snare drum sound under musical control; these wires made a significant contribution to what-all got me to where I'm really happy with the sound of this snare drum.

long time musician, new drummer though I've dabbled for many years on my drummer's drum kits. i wanted this for my pork pie big black brass snare. i was really going back and forth between the tama 42 and this 30 strand during online shopping. i can't say if i like this better than the 42 but i do like it a lot. fatter, deeper, wetter (wait, is this for my snare wire review?) it just sounds like i had hoped. at first i said yuck but after some adjusting / tightening of the snare wire it settled into it's great sound. i use a remo ambassador head on top (2 moon gels) and aquarian clear bottom adjusted with my drumdial to 90/82 respectively and so far that seems to be a winning setup on about every genre I can think of. has just the right amount of that "shaker" sound behind the snare

I have had a Ludwig Supraphonic mid to late 60's that came with the Ringo Star type set which I purchased in 1969. That snare has always been a bit ringy for me even though I had added a bit of cloth strip dampening under the head. I had to hit right in the middle to avoid the excessive ring. When I played on another snare, wood shell, at rehearsal, I was impressed with how sensitive and responsive it was all over the surface and wanted mine to be somewhat similar. I had the standard width snares.

I decided after some reading to replace the snares with this PS super 30 and it solved some of that over tone ringing where I can hit further beyond the center before the ringing becomes annoying plus this gave me much more sensitive response to lighter strokes. I can't say if just replacing my very old snares with a new set of standard width would have done near as well but I thought why not give these a try.

These didn't completely solve my problem and it may take more refined dampening of the head, changing them or just go to a wood drum but I do feel they contributed enough to improving the sound and response that I feel they were worth it.

Pay the money and get this snare. PureSound is excellent. The extra strands help cut through the mix with great tone. Your snare's tone is broadcast over the overzealous guitarist who is already at 11 just because. Use them on Wood snares. Use them on Vintage snares, Brass and Steel. You will smile.

Great improvement. Added this to a Gretsch 14 inch Maple snare with a Evans Hydraulic head I was having trouble getting the "right" sound out of it consistently.
Basically the snare tones would vary between high velocity hits and low (the low volume hits had more snare wire rattle), plus the area of consistent snare sound was about 4 inches in the center. Hitting outside the "zone" led to unwanted tonal changes.
The PureSound Super 30 removed those annoying variations while fattening the snare sound. The area of consistent "snare sound" is 8-9 inches in dia. and velocity/volume changes quiets or increases a consistent snare sound accordingly.
Notes: I am using 2 moon gel dampers at 8 and 11 o'clock to kill a unwanted resonant tone (that further tuning may remove when I get more time).

Much higher quality than the one that came with my snare drum. For the price and quality, I highly suggest this as a replacement. I use frog tape (masking tape) to hold the snare closer to the bottom drum head for more surface area and a tighter sound. I put one piece on each end and one in the middle. I used my existing strings instead of the ones that came with it. The strings that come with it are less than perfect, but I will not lower my rating of 5 star because of this.

LOVE these snare wires. I replaced the stock 20-strand snares that came with my drum. Along with a new batter and reso head, man what a difference. It sounds like a whole new drum! I also got the puresound blaster series 20-strand snares for my second drum. I gotta say, I think I'm gonna switch that one to these 30-strand snares. The sound I can get from my drum is nice and fat, and I can still loosen them up to let the snare ring when I want. No muffling or sound rings required! Would highly recommend.
