This is an attractive unit, no doubt. Polished chrome finish, and sturdy construction. I like how it looks on the counter, but there are several significant issues to consider, which caused me to rate it three stars.

1) The hook for holding bananas is much too small. Even if you buy a single bunch of bananas, it will only hold a small bunch. But, what I do is buy bananas from at least two different bunches, since they have a short time span in which they are ripe but not over-ripe. So I might tear off three from a bunch that is yellow (good tomorrow and the next day), three from a bunch that is greenish (good 3 - 4 days from now) and three from a bunch that is solidly green (good 5 - 6 days down the road). The hook on this banana tree, as received (but see below for my "modification") is woefully inadequate for me.

2) The vertical "trunk" part of the banana "tree" is not tall enough. It's OK if you have a bunch of small bananas, but if you buy normal/large bananas, they will hang down to just above the top of the bowl and make it cumbersome to grab a piece of fruit in the bowl.

3) It's not easy to tell from the picture, but the bowl's cross-section (looking down at the top) is oval, not circular. This means it holds less fruit. I'm not sure why they did this since it would have looked equally attractive as a circular design. Also, coupled with #2 above, it makes it that much more cumbersome to grab a piece of fruit from the bowl.

So here's what I did to resolve issue #1, and mitigate to some extent issue #2. If you want to try this you will need two very sturdy needle-nose pliers or locking jaw pliers. You do not want to apply any significant stress to the weld where the hook is attached to the "trunk" or you will likely break the hook off.Read more ›

I don't have a ton of counter space to spare, but this item is well worth it! I don't know why some people think it is too big, because I think it is well sized. Currently mine is holding 6 apples, 2 oranges and 2 bananas. Helps keep life of bananas. My kids love fruit, and I love to encourage that habit. Beautiful chrome finish and easily fits into a corner space. My mom loved it so much when she visited that she went home and ordered her own. Exactly as described. Great purchase!!!

I read all of the reviews already posted here before purchasing this fruit tree, and was a bit concerned that it would be too large based on some of the reviews. The photo here on Amazon shows the size accurately. I have not filled it with fruit/apples yet, but I do have a pineapple that I put in it and it takes up about the same amount of room as the 4 apples, if that gives you another frame of reference. I love that is looks very modern and serves a function rather than just having a centerpiece taking up space. I am very pleased with my purchase!

The first fruit tree that I received was scored on the right arm of the banana hook about 2 inches from the bottom. That arm was bent in, which caused the banana hook to hang off to one side rather than being centered over the fruit bowl. I requested a replacement, which I received very quickly but unfortunately it had the exact same issue. I contacted Amazon about it and was told that they would investigate the issue and make the product unavailable to purchase until it was resolved. The next time I checked, the item was available to purchase so I thought maybe the issue had been corrected. I ordered another one and just received it yesterday. The right arm of the banana hook is scored in the same place. The arm is still bent in, although it is definitely straighter than the first two. The banana hook hangs just slightly off to one side. Other than these problems, it seems like a nice product. I may just keep this one since it is the best of the three. I do wonder if anyone else has received one of these defective products. I can't imagine that I am the only one.
