I searched all over the 'net for reviews of this binocular, but could find nothing, so I decided to take a chance, get the Carson 10X42s and review them myself. Here's what I found...
The Carson is manufactured in China, natch. Fit and finish are good. The body is covered with a drab green rubber-like material. This provides a waterproof exterior (the description of these did not mention waterproofing for this model, but according to specs on the focus wheel, they are waterproof) and makes it easy to maintain a secure grip on the unit.
This is my first experience with roof prism vs. porro prism binoculars, and I appreciate the slim, lightweight design compared to the chunky porro glasses. Center hinge action is smooth and tension is just right. The focusing wheel is large and easy to adjust for critical focus.
The right ocular also adjusts for focus. However, it must be readjusted each time focus is changed, along with the center focusing wheel. This can be a pain, and is the major drawback to these glasses.
Both eyecups adjust for three positions of eye relief; just twist and pull up. Since I don't wear glasses when looking thru binos the eyecups stayed in the up position. Close focus for the Carsons is said to be 6'. I'd say that is about right, and you will get a clear, sharp image, but the closer you are to your target, the more you will feel your eyes stressing, and you won't see one well defined circle of view, but two overlapping ones. At about 12' and greater things get better. Collimation seemed to be good in my sample. Non ultra close viewing is a pleasure. The image is sharp and contrasty with a negligible amount of color fringing noted in high contrast lighting situations.

I've got to say I'm really pleased with my new Carson 8 x 42 close focus binoculars....easily the best binoculars I've seen for less than a hundred dollars.

They're good looking, shock resistant, water-proof, have a good strap, a decent case...are easy to focus....very decent, well-made birding binos. I'd rate the view through them as almost as good as my Nikon Monarchs...a pair I really loved...but that were stolen...but, the Carson binoculars cost about a third as much.

AT $65 THESE ARE THE BANG FOR THE BUCK! TIME WILL TELL AS TO HOW THEY HOLD UP, BUT AS OF NOW THEY SEEM WELL WORTH THE PRICE.AFTER PERSONALLY VIEWING A NUMBER OF TOP NAME BRANDS AND CONSIDERING THE PRICES, I PURCHASED THEM FOR ANTELOPE, DEER, AND ELK HUNTING AND HAVEN'T REGRETTED THE PURCHASE. OF COURSE, THERE ARE BETTER OPTICS OUT THERE, BUT THESE DO THE JOB WELL AND FULFILL THE PURPOSE - ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY ARE FULLY MULTICOATED. WORKS FOR ME.

I owned these for over a year and a half and got them for $68. They are just shy of enough eye relief for the glasses I wore. I now have new glasses and they don't meet the eye relief I need now. I don't remember them getting knocked into anything but I recently noticed the whole left eyepiece (not eyecup) was crooked. I thought it was just a pressed fit so I tried to straighten it and it came right off. I realized that it's a screw on and it's made of plastic. I screwed it back on but it was stripped so I had to secure it with tape. I'm glad I didn't pay more for these since they just have rubber lamination on a plastic body and now the rubber layer is just starting to separate from the body. I use them a lot for hiking. I really like the 6' near focus since I do a lot of butterfly watching and the optics are pretty good for this price range. Spending more to get a better built pair would be worth it if you intend to get a lot of use out of binocs which is what I have to do now but these are fine if it's just for occasional use.

This set of binoculars fit my needs for close in observation of birds at a feeder. Without going to the $300 range, they are ideal. After use of about three weeks, they have performed well. The only item that I dislike is the lens covers for the objective. For some strange reason they are to fit inside rather than fit over like the eyepiece ones. They were manufactured too small, and as a consequence, readily fall off-a definite nuisance. The US distributor cannot be faulted as this is a manufacturer problem. The distributor offered to replace them, but as it is a design flaw, I did not bother. They were to contact the manufacturer about the issue. Other than that minor hiccup, I am very happy to date.

The quality is good. It is not the smallest binocular but it is ok size. The bigger set of lense covers are kind of flimsy, they do not stay on place, but I do not care much. I consider the quality of the product for the price an excellent value!!

These binoculars have a very nice feel, I like the close focusing feature for butterflies and dragonflies you can get a real good view with these binoculars. The focusing knob is very smooth and I'm able to focus quickly for the busy sparrow as they hop from branch to branch. Time will tell how well that hold up to the rigor of heavy birding.
