If you want to maintain already-healthy gut flora, the recommended dosage of 1 softgel, twice daily with meals, is probably perfectly fine.

If you are on a restorative plan, attempting to heal microbial imbalances in the gut or on the skin, or you already know you have chronic or recurring yeast issues because of a leaky gut, my gentle recommendation would be to start slowly--especially if you already incorporate coconut products in your diet. For example, consider starting with 1 capsule every other day for the first few week, take 1 a day the second week, and if all goes well (no gastric "upset") take the recommended 1 capsule twice a day.

I started with one a capsule day and I got wicked diarrhea. The bad-flora clear-out process was brief but intense, so I cut back to one capsule every other day until things went back to normal. Then I slowly increased to the recommended dosage. Within a couple weeks, I noticed an increase in energy, less joint pain, and overall feeling of lightness.

As far as caprylic acid's topical antibacterial benefits, I decided to conduct an experiment. I'd recently suffered a deep puncture wound on the back of my hand that had been healing nicely. After the 5th day, however, the area around the puncture became *extremely* red, swollen, painful, and hot to the touch. I was afraid I'd need to see a doctor for antibiotics to stop the infection, as I did not want to risk sepsis, which can be fatal if untreated. However, I'd previously read about people using coconut oil to clear up skin issues (such as athlete's foot), so I decided to try it, telling myself that it conditions worsened by the next morning I would see a physician immediately.

I was sick for years and spent more money than I care to think about going to doctors and specialist who either shrugged or told me I was crazy. I couldn't work and my emotional swings were scary. It turns out that the large amount of antibiotics that I had needed to treat a severe infection I had contracted when this all started had destroyed my stomach fauna. Out of control candida yeast had made me toxic. Joint pain and swelling, constant fatigue, depression, feeling like I had the flu everyday, all these cleared up after just a few days of using these pills and changing my diet.

One word of warning, they candida dying made me sick to my stomach for the first day or so. I would recommend taking a few days off or starting them on a weekend off from work. Two or three days in and everything settled down and months later I am doing almost as good as I was before all this mess started. This is shipped to me on a regular basis now.

I have been suffering from Chronic Yeast Infection for years. Before taking the Caprylic Acid, I use to see doctors every month for the yeast infection. Used all kinds of medication and nothing works. I took this product along with Olive Leaf (Nature's Way Olive Leaf)as some review had suggested. After taking it once a day for 30 days, I have no more symptoms. It's been over 2 months, no re-infection. Must be careful not to eat a lot of sweets or drink alcohol because it increases the chance for the yeast infection..

I couldn't tell you if these caprylic acid softgels from NOW are effective in treating any medical condition. I take them in case they are. I have an intestinal candida overgrowth. Studies on the effects of medium chain triglycerides (MCT), including caprylic acid, on candida indicate that they can be effective. From what I have read, capric acid is actually more effective on candida albicans, followed by caprylic acid, followed by lauric acid -the three MCTs found in coconut oil. Many people claim that coconut oil is more effective against candida than caprylic acid pills. That wouldn't surprise me. Coconut oil contains 1050 mg caprylic acid, 882 mg capric acid, and 6930 mg lauric acid per tablespoon (14 grams). Unfortunately, coconut oil also contains 243 mg Omega-6 fatty acids per tablespoon. Coconut oil is extremely inflammatory.

I found this out the hard way, as my badly arthritic hip would flare up shortly after I consumed coconut oil. I tried doubling up on Omega-3 pills to counter the problem, and it helped, but I could not get the hip to stop hurting while I was consuming coconut oil. So I switched to 3000 mg per day of caprylic acid. Problem solved. If you're using coconut oil and are experiencing achy joints, acne, or any other inflammatory problem, it's the oil. One tablespoon of coconut oil has an inflammation factor (IF) rating of -115 on Monica Reinagel's IF system. (She's the nutritionist who pioneered anti-inflammation diets, or at least popularized them.) That means that it's moderately inflammatory. Two tablespoons are strongly inflammatory. My hip agrees. It's unfortunate that capric acid isn't available in pills, but caprylic acid is the only option if you don't want to eat coconut oil.

I will try to be as brief as possible. This was the last of four items that I tried to rid my stomach of Candida overgrowth. Since I was about to take a plane trip in one week and did not have time to wait on the US Post Office, I needed a fast answer on what worked on my system and how it worked. I wound up getting a competitor's version near my home that has twice the strength of these 600 mg capsules, and I did take two of them for 2472 mg total. Three hours later the eviction notice was delivered to some of my Candida overgrowth. To give you an idea, it felt like a prep for a colonoscopy whereby one is married to the throne for quite some time. I might as well mention the other three items that I tried, which also showed slow and gentle results. They are: 1) coconut oil capsules, 2) Kyolic aged garlic extract capsules, and 3) Probiotics Pearls. Since I was taking all four of these items, the eviction notice may have been a results of caprylic acid combining with any of the other three, which is why I mentioned it. A fifth "home remedy" may have assisted, but I doubt it, and that was about 8 ounces of straight 120 proof bourbon the night before (which never gave me that kind of reaction before).

Needless to say, I spent a lot of research to find these items and came across a lot of unscrupulous websites that are out to make a lot of money on our misery. With that in mind, I will reveal the whole simple truth!

All of us got Candida overgrowth by taking antibiotics without yogurt. This created a friendly environment for Candida in the stomach, which manifests itself as rashes and yeast infections elsewhere in the body similar to mushrooms sprouting up in a fairy ring on lawns overnight. The center of the problem is in the gut.
