But this one is pretty darn close! I've loved fans since about 10 years old and I have a bunch of different brands and types. I've gone through several drugstore $20 pedestal fans, always noisy, clunky, cheap, squeeky and sometimes smell like they are burning up.

THIS fan, however, is everything those cheapies aren't. Great quality, smooth, quiet and moves the air without fuss. My only complaint is that with a 12 inch head the air is a little more focussed, but that may be perfect for your use. It's also a little hard to find.

I've always heard great reviews of Vornado fans and I have seen them at friend's place and the stores. This is a decent to great fan and I must say--hard to find. It's fairly quiet and works fablously at the foot of the bed.

PROS: - It comes with a pedestal so you don't have to worry about finding a place to put it...especially when you are in NYC and barely have a dresser.
- It's black, it matches most things.
- You can remove the grill and CLEAN it! I don't understand why some fans cannot be open to clean. They DO get dirty!
- The fan can pivot and blow upward at the ceiling (though I'm not sure why) or any other angle for those super tall people.

CONS: - the angle of the fan rotation is about 100 degrees. I find that most fan's rotation arcs are not that big anymore. My childhood fans seems to cover most of the room and I'm not that old!
- The pedestal seem like cheap plastic. It does the job but I wish they made it better.
-The pedestal is short and not adjustable. For some reason, I thought it would be taller...it approx 3ft tall from the base to the top of the fan.

Overall, it's a great fan. I would buy it again but hopefully not since I bought 2 for myself and 1 for mum.

I bought this fan many, many years ago when it was not described as a "vintage" fan as it is now. It has run almost constantly for 6 months a year for all these years. This year it developed a slight hum when it turned (when on ocillation). It deserves to groan a bit after so many years of faithful service, but I was delighted to see that Vornado is still making this fan and bought a new one, which is exactly like my old friend. I am thinking of buying yet another as insurance against Vornado deciding not to continue to manufacture this fan in the future.
