I am happy with this product, it is harder than super sculpey with a better gray color for the detection of desired form in my work, specifically it is superior to super sculpey for detailed work, but I still like super sculpey for general shaping. It also does not brown or change colors when slightly over cooked like super sculpey can. The gray color keeps true.
It can be sanded, carved and/or painted after baking as well.
To avoid crumbling, hold and press in your hands for a few seconds or a minute before adding to your sculpture.

This is excellent for sculptors who require precision. Sculpey Firm has a consistency that allows for detail work that just isn't possible with regular Sculpey. If you're doing anything that requires detail then this is the polymer clay for you.

The one gripe I have about Sculpey Firm is that it's packaged in a cardboard box with no plastic wrap and it has a tendency to dry out if it's on store shelves long enough. The first time I bought the stuff I got a dry brick and nearly killed my hands trying to work it and get it to stick to itself. The second time around I got a newer fresh brick and it was perfect. When you get the clay press in with your finger. If it gives with a little pressure then you have a good brick. If it doesn't give and you see cracks and flaking around the edges then return it because it's dried out and will be nothing but a headache (or finger ache).

Hope that helps!

This clay is awesome for small-scale sculpting. I use it mainly for making 54 mm figurines but it has great potential for larger sculpts as well, though you might want an armature as the clay is fairly oily and will deform easily.

Follow the instructions for baking it on the box and you should be fine, though on some ovens I've found I needed to leave stuff in longer than suggested. For the most part though the heat will not deform the sculpt, even if over-cooked, which makes it great for small precise pieces.

I've found that it is much easier to see your work in finer detail in this color. I think it's too dark to paint with acrylics later though if your going to use multi colors or try to paint faces. It takes several layers to cover and then you lose the great detail. Great to use for a mold though, leave plain or use just metallic spray paint on.

This was my first time using the Super Sculpey and sculpting in general and it was surprisingly easy to use. The clay is easy to roll out and form with your hands and you don't even need to leave in the oven very long before it cures. I think this type of sculpey clay is best for detailed pieces just going off of the detailed sculpture I have previously made. If you are working on something big I would recommend using the good ole aluminum foil to fill in most of the core so you can bake your sculpture quickly and evenly.

pros.
soft yet firm for details.
Easily forms.
fast baking time.

cons.
Don't leave the clay out too long or it WILL become extremely difficult to soften back up.

I am going to stick with this version of Sculpey from now on. It is the exact consistency and firmness for small scale projects. It smooths out easily. It can be sanded after baking.for a very smooth surface, especially if you use 600-1000 grit sandpaper.

It was actually quite malleable than I expected - it didn't make my fingers hurt and it didn't crumble into a million pieces. Being more softer than I expected it, it still holds very good details (such as fingernails, fingers, tiny cracks, and more on a 7'' sculpture of a human).

I was actually scared it would get baked while shipping or being delivered to my home because in the week it was being shipped/delivered the temperature in my area rocketed to 98 degrees for a few days. However; that didn't happen because it was inside a bubble-wrapped package.

Would recommend this to more experienced clay artists and definitely recommend
