I bought these mixing spoons (as well as the paula deen wooden turners) off amazon last month. There was sort of a laquer/finish on them, and after the FIRST USE the finish wore off and the wood looked very dry and dull. I was cooking spaghetti sauce, so maybe you aren't supposed to use them with hot dishes, but they are wooden spoons...I expect to be able to cook with them.

I have used them very lightly, and not too often, and after only a month, the wood is splintering and chipping on the ends.

Very disappointed. For the price, I was expecting better quality, but in my opinion the dollar store wooden spoons are better quality than these.

The large spoon snapped in half with normal use after about a month. The smaller one is still usable, but has stained a lot because the wood is so porous and brittle. These look beautiful as long as you never use them.

Extremely disappointed. I thought with the Paula Deen name I would be purchasing some quality spoons. A chunk of the small spoon came off almost immediately and the larger spoon has split up the middle. Terrible.

I recently bought a number of wooden and bamboo utensils to go with some new pots. I always expect to initially invest some time sanding such implements if I want them to be totally smooth, which I do. I use a sequence of 220/400/1500 grit sandpaper. They often end up looking like works of art especially if the wood has a nice grain. These do.

Like most wooden implements the PD spoons required some sanding. However, the hard wood used (walnut?) was quite fine grain, showed no splintering, and came out the best of the lot in terms of appearance (along with a very attractive olive wood spoon I purchased separately...). After sanding, they all took a nice hand rubbed finish of mineral oil, as well.

In use, these spoons have proven to be uniformly excellent. Nice heft, easy grip, nice balance; they clean up well. The two sizes included are great for my range of sauce pans. It's the smaller size that's are more difficult to come by. I'm sure some people will also appreciate being able to hang them from their copper hooks. You can't ask for more from a spoon set, really.

I believe this to be a very well thought out set of wooden implements. Give them a bit of your time up front and I think you'll be very pleased with your purchase. I also feel they are very good value for money compared to the other wooden utensils on offer. You'll have to be the judge of that, however.

I was disappointed with the quality of the wood in the big spoon . It wasn't attractive and was very pourous and unfinished. Not a spoon I'd be proud to use. The small one was better wood and finish. I'd say your taking your chances in what you'll receive as far as the quailty of the wood. I'd read someone else's review saying the same thing but I took my chances and I'm sorry I did. I was expecting better quality from a Paula Dean signiture product.

I really like these spoons. I like the smaller of the two best, the larger won't be as useful to me since it is pretty large and I have other large spoons that I use. My husband removed the metal rings for me (I don't need to hang them up) and it feels much better using them since the rings don't get in the way. I have another Paula Deen wooden spoon like these that came without the ring and I love it, I have used it for years. It got it's first chip on the bowl part about a year ago but still works fine and is used daily. I have been looking for the longest time for the same spoons. The handles are sturdy and feel solid and are easy to grip, much better than the skinny, thinner type wooden spoons. No worries of them snapping or cracking while using. I just wish you could buy just the smaller spoon separate since I have more than enough of the larger ones and I don't use them as often...well hardly ever. The smaller of the two are my go-to cooking spoons and I use them every day, all the time.

Needed two wooden spoons for the kitchen. Not too long and not too short. These seemed fine. They are not. They looked old and poor quality and sure enough, I've used them 3 times now, always washed by hand too and they are no longer useful. They have lost whatever the coating may have been and are splintery feeling. i don't dare continue to use. In the trash they go. Has put me right off ordering from Paula Dean again. Overpriced junk!

I wish I liked these, but they came chipped. The small one has a small chunk missing out of the top & the larger one has a small chip on the top. The handles are decent though. It feels comfortable enough. The larger handle Paula Deen was wearing away, not a big deal though. They would've gotten their use anyway. I don't think these would be safe to cook with, but I read the reviews & I took a chance. I think I will buy more Paula Deen products. I might have to see them in store first.
