It's been about a month since we started our 12-year old dog on this food. He had really gone downhill the last 6 months, with arthritis - so we couldn't exercise him much and he started gaining weight and becoming very listless. Our daughter is a Vet Tech in another State, and told us the dog food our vet recommended was high in protein and was adding weight (and our dog didn't like to eat the food). I did a lot of research and decided to try this dog food. There was one reviewer that said their older dog became a puppy again and I figured that was enough to give this a try. Our dog loved the food as soon as we put it in front of him. He has started to thin out a bit and miraculously he wants to play again. It's wonderful to see him jump up on his hind legs and trot around the house. I really hope that other dog owners can experience this joy. We want our dog's last months/years to be happy and especially want to thank the makers of Canidae for Senior and Overweight Dogs for giving us the opportunity for that to happen!

Oh my goodness...I have an 11 year old pug/beagle mix that has been lethargic for about 3 years, wouldn't really play, had a dull coat no matter how much I groomed her, and has had itchy paws and armpits for a long time. I never knew that all of that crap was in the big name brand dog foods. I had always had her on Purina of some sort until I started doing research. I was blown away by what I read and quickly became obsessed with finding a better food without paying an arm and a leg. I refuse to pay more for my dogs food than for our own food. After researching about 30 different dog foods and prices and brands on different websites, I went with Canidae All Life Stages (chicken, turkey, lamb, and fish)via Amazon with free super saver shipping for both my 11 year old Puggle and my new 10 week old labrador retriever puppy. I haven't regretted the change or the purchase at all! I am absolutely thrilled. My 11 year old isn't nearly as itchy, has a crazy shiny coat now, and has ALL KINDS of energy to keep up with the puppy now! Also, the breeder of my new lab had her on Purina Pro Plan Large Breed so I switched her right away and even her coat looks so much better now and it's only been about 3 weeks. I can't wait to see the difference in the two of them over the next 3 or 4 months. They both did get a little bit constipated during the transition period from their old foods to the Canidae, but a little bit of canola oil for a few days drizzled over their breakfast and dinner fixed that until their bodies adjusted. Both are regular now with no problems. Also, during the transition, I couldn't get either of them to eat even one piece of their old food. They would both pick out the Canidae and gobble it up and then leave their old food in the bowl until they were later famished! It was funny to watch!Read more ›

A recently deceased friend told me about this food, Canadae Platinum. He fed his "boys" both the dry and the canned. His boys are a German Spitz and a Bichon Frise, 4/14 years old respectively. Doug said that after less than two weeks, the 14 year old was like a "new dog".

I now have his dogs, fullfilling a promise, added to our Doxy and Shiba Inu ( 5/7 years respectively), three cats and 7 birds. All the dogs are now on this Canadae Platinum dry food and love it. While they used to pick at their old food, they dive into this. They also seem to get satiated faster, so they actually leave a little in the bowls.

The Glucosamine/Chondroitin is the key for the older dog. A vet once recommended it for an older dog we used to have years ago. When I started taking it for my arthritic ankles, I was soon able to stop taking anti-inflamatories like Daypro. I've since found out that the medical establishment considers GC to be useless. All I can say is that it works for me, and within a few weeks of re-starting Little Boy ( the 14 year old) on this food with GC, he runs, plays and jumps with the rest of the dogs like a puppy.

There are a few places in Las Vegas selling this food, all "high-end" pet food stores and all slightly more expensive. The convenience of one-click and having the food on my doorstep in a day or two is even better than the savings.

We've also moved our cats over to Felidae (the feline version of Canadae) with similar results.

We've been feeding our dogs this for at least 10 years, and that includes puppies and seniors. It's very well balanced, and we never have a weight problem with our dogs. Their stools are nice and firm, and really, isn't that what it's all about? Their coats are nice and shiny, they love the food, and no one has had any allergic reaction to it.

It's medium-small sized dry bits are fine for our miniature schnauzers, and larger breeds. I think dogs smaller than 10 pounds might struggle with the size.

To be honest, there was a recall on this food a couple of years ago. I did try another brand, and wasn't as happy with it. Our dogs gained weight on the same amount of measured food, and I had difficulty locating the same flavor two times in a row at the same store.

We bought this food because it was in the "Whole Dog Journal" top ten food list and compared to everything there, it was the best price. We do add a big tablespoon of Wellness canned at mealtime. They all love it, and so do we.
