Our recent "Project Foreclosure" had a set of double doors that were badly misaligned. The gap a the bottom was close to a 1/2 inch, letting in a cold draft in the winter. While the creative use of some thick weather stripping sealed the gaps, the fit was too tight at the top, yet still allowed air to slip through at the bottom. Weatherstripping is best suited for a more consistent gap - here we had a tight fit at one end and a wide gap at the bottom. What we needed wasn't more or thicker weatherstripping, but a door that was hung properly.

The EZ-Shim let us quickly add a durable shim to the door to fix the alignment. Each shim can be adjusted for single, double & triple thickness. We ended up using a double shim on one side and a singe thickness shim on the other to best align each of the double doors. I've used custom cut cardboard and paper shims in the past with mixed results - moisture often ruins the paper-based shim and the cardboard paper will compress too easily.

The reason I gave the product four stars and not five is due to the standard punch-outs they include for door hinges. The design could be improved if additional holes were included for different hinge patterns. The spots included did not line up with our door's existing hinge support screws, so we ended up taping the shims to the hinge to get the alignment down and then pushing screws through the plastic shim. If the device had more holes to accommodate more hinge designs, we would have been able to easily slide the shim into place without fully removing the door's hinge.

Best invention since the door hinge. I went to multiple hardware stores and every person had this puzzled look on their face. REALLY? All the high quality craftsmanship from the housing boom and no one has ever thought these were a great idea? Simple to install and plenty of shims to do an entire house. If they don't work for you, don't follow the instructions but try to visualize how the door sits in the frame and adjust from there. The instructions tell you to look for a gap but filling that gap pushes the door other places so you can either spatially visualize and adjust or do trial and error. Either way these are definitely the best thing since the invention of the door hinge.

These things are fantastic. They are easy to use, and much easier than stuffing cardboard into your hinges to achieve the same effect. Also, this plastic won't compress over time. These were larger than I expected, and the corners needed to be trimmed to fit our rounded hinges, but trimming was easy, and these worked flawlessly. I do wish that they were slightly thinner and not wedge-shaped for more straightforward adjustments, but they worked flawlessly, and these gripes are minor.

We moved into a new house and one of the bathroom doors wouldn't latch closed properly. I could see that the door was about a sixteenth of an inch too low. The door hinges were 3.5 inches tall and used three screws, so these were the correct shims.

I ordered them and once they arrived I had them installed and the problem fixed in about 5 minutes. To explain how they work, if you look at the product photo the actual shim is one third of the white square that you see - it snaps into three identical pieces. You then use the number of shims stacked on top of each other that adjust the door the appropriate amount.

For the three-screw hinges these are designed for, you remove the top and bottom screw from the hinge and loosen the middle screw, but leave it in place. If you see the far-right side of the shim in the picture you can see it has an opening on the right-edge, and this screw that is left in place slides into that notch.

Once you've slid the shims into place, the holes at the top and bottom of the shims will align with the screw holes in the hinge and the wall, allowing you to put the two removed screws back into place.

These shims won't fix every problem, but if you have slight alignment issues and don't want to take down your trim to re-shim the door frame (and re-paint), these can really do the trick - they are a really ingenious solution.

I first saw this type of product when we had new front doors installed. The installer said you can't get these at HD or Lowes which we found to be true. He said he could only buy them in a sleeve of 300.

We looked everywhere until we finally found and tried these.I thought I was going to have to get a thicker doorstop molding because light was coming through an obvious gap and the door didn't close well either. Not good for the 1/2 bath when you have to tell your guests that the door doesn't lock. Well, I bought these and ended up needing to put 2 of the 18 pieces behind each hinge. It centered the door in the opening and it works perfectly now. I'm using the remaining pieces to adjust other doors that work good but might need a tune up under one or more hinge to get it perfect.

Easy to use. Simply remove the top and bottom hinge screws and loosen the center screw. Slide shim (one to three) between hinge and frame or (in my case, due to hinge being welded to frame) hinge and door. Re-install screws and repeat for other hinges. Shims are three to a card, if you need three shims, fold card in "z" shape along seperation line. If you need 2 shims, remove 1 shim, and fold remaining two shims in half along line seperating shims. Shims can be easily trimmed with a good pair of shears if needed. Each shim adjust door 1/32". This pack fits 3.5" hinges. There are other sizes available for other size hinges. You can learn more about these shims by checking with the manufacturer's web-site. I had a question about these, and the responded quickly to my email.
