5.0 out of 5 stars Best Midrange Card for the Money!, October 16, 2008
By Ken W. "Dr. Drift" (Midwest United States) - See all my reviews
First off, here are my specs: Dell Inspiron 531 with an AMD 64 X2 4400+ @ 2.4ghz, 3gb ram, and a 250gb hd.

Trust me, I spent countless hours researching which video card was best for me. I wanted to run a good amount of new games without worrying about not meeting the system requirements. If you've read reviews online of the 8800GT/9800GT you'll notice that it's THE midrange card for the performance minded user. I can tell you that this is definitely the case. With my old card (XFX 8600GT XXX overclocked to 620mhz) I was able to score 5329 in 3DMARK06 and run a pretty good amount of games like F.E.A.R. and Call of Duty 4 at medium to medium-high settings with good FPS. With this 9800GT I was able to score an 8368 in 3DMARK06 and run Call of Duty 4, Medal of Honor Airborne, and other games like this at maximum settings (with AA) and get great framerates. Crysis will even run well at medium settings. You'll definitely notice how much better the 9800GT performs. If you want to kick the performance up a bit, EVGA even includes an overclocking utility that lets you make adjustments and monitor the gpu's temperature on screen while playing games.

Now, all that being said, make sure that your power supply unit is at least 400w like the specs ask. I had to upgrade my Dell's puny 300w PSU with a better unit. That's really the only con I can think of. Granted, it's not EVGA's fault that my power supply wasn't up to spec.

All in all, the EVGA 9800GT is a very solid card that I'm very glad with purchasing. And it definitely fits my PCI-E x16 slot.
