How To Use

2-in-1 Designer Comb

GET READY

Make sure hair is dry, detangled & styled as you would normally wear it. Use an old towel to protect your clothing & household surfaces. Have paper towels and a clock or timer handy. Put on your gloves.
STEP ONE MIX IT UP!
	Pull up the tab to remove plastic tip from Developing Crème [2] and unscrew nozzle. Shake Hi-Definition Highlighting Powder [1a] packette until contents settle at the bottom. Keeping away from face, tear as indicated.
	Pour entire contents of Hi-Definition Highlighting Powder [1a] packette into Developing Crème [2] bottle. Replace nozzle on Developing Crème [2] bottle securely.
	Place gloved finger over the tip, point bottle away from face and shake vigorously for at least 15 seconds until totally blended.
	Unscrew cap of Hi-Definition Highlighting Crème [1b] tube and pierce the foil seal with outer end of cap. Squeeze every last drop of the Hi-Definition Highlighting Crème [1b] into the Developing Crème [2] bottle.
	Replace nozzle securely and, placing gloved finger over the tip, shake bottle vigorously for at least 15 seconds until totally blended.
Clear nozzle of any unmixed product by squirting a little out. If mixture is still too thin, shake bottle for a bit longer.The mixture will turn a bright color to help you see where your highlights will appear. Don't worry, it is NOT the color your highlights will be. Once mixed, never reseal bottle or store color mixture in a closed container as it could burst.

STEP TWO: HIGHLIGHTING WITH EASE!

	Squeeze the colored mixture from the bottle into either end of the 2-in-1 Designer Comb (read "CHOOSE THE HIGHLIGHTS YOU DESIRE"). Fill completely to the top to ensure best root to tip coverage.
	Place the comb against first area of hair to be highlighted, ensuring the teeth touch your part, at the roots.
	Slowly pull the comb down the hair. If mixture doesn't reach the ends, refill comb and place so that teeth overlap unfinished streak a little. Slowly pull down to the ends of hair. Continue to apply streaks in this way, on both sides of your part. DON'T GO OVER STREAKS ALREADY CREATED!
	Use the fine end of the comb to apply two or three streaks at the back of your head, using a mirror to help you. Be careful not to apply too close to existing streaks, particularly at the root area!
	Finish by using the fine end of the comb to apply subtle highlights to your bangs or hair framing your face. Place streaks further apart for increased subtlety.

STEP THREE: TIME IT FLAWLESSLY!

	Leave the mixture on your head for the time determined during your STRAND TEST OR for 30 minutes.
	While you're waiting, pour any unused mixture down the drain. Once mixed, it will lose effectiveness after an hour.

STEP FOUR: RINSE AND SHINE!

	Put on gloves. Rinse mixture off hair with warm water. Shampoo your hair thoroughly using a mild shampoo to stop the lightening process.
	Now, massage a quarter-size amount of Shine-Amplifying Conditioner [3] into your hair thoroughly. Leave on for 2 minutes before rinsing off. Dry and style hair as usual.
Use the Shine-Amplifying Conditioner [3] once a week to maintain the beauty of your highlights for up to six weeks.

GET READY

Highlighting Secrets

1. Practice your combing technique (see STEP TWO – HIGHLIGHT WITH EASE!) using conditioner first! When you have finished, rinse and dry the comb and your hair (but don't shampoo!) before applying highlights.
2. For best results, clip up a very small top section (1/4 inch) of hair on both sides of your part – don't apply mixture to this section.
3. Don't lift up hair while combing on mixture.
4. Fill comb completely to the top for best root to tip coverage.
5. Lay comb so ALL teeth rest completely flat on your head – keep teeth fully aligned with hair as you streak root to tip.
6. Comb slowly and gently – don't press comb too hard against hair!
7. Use the fine end of the highlighting comb to complete unfinished streaks with maximum ease.
8. Do not go back over streaks you have already created.
9. Don't overdo it – 10-16 streaks are usually enough!

WHAT PRODUCTS DOES CLAIROL MAKE?

Clairol makes haircolor products. Choose from Semi-Permanent (lasts through 8-12 shampoos), Demi-Permanent (lasts through 28 shampoos), Permanent (lasts until your hair grows out or you recolor) or Highlighting & Blonding to help you become colorwonderful™.

SHOULD INDIVIDUALS WITH NATURAL, UNCOLORED HAIR USE DIFFERENT HAIRCOLOR PRODUCTS THAN THOSE WHO HAVE PREVIOUSLY COLORED THEIR HAIR?

It depends on the desired result. If you are coloring your hair for the first time and only want to enhance your natural color, try a Demi-Permanent (lasts through 28 shampoos) product close to your natural haircolor. If you want to go lighter, you need to select a Permanent (lasts until your hair grows out or you recolor) haircolor, then refer to the insert that comes inside your box of Clairol haircolor and follow the instructions for first time application.

SHOULD PEOPLE WHO WANT TO COVER GRAY HAIR USE DIFFERENT COLORING PRODUCTS THAN THOSE WHO DON'T NEED COVERAGE?

Most Clairol haircolor products will blend or cover gray hair to some degree. If you have a small percentage of gray (not very visible), use a Semi-Permanent (lasts through 8-12 shampoos) product, such as Loving Care. If you have a higher percentage of gray hair (up to 50%), use a Demi-Permanent (lasts through 28 shampoos) product such as Natural Instincts, which will blend away gray hair.
On the other hand, if you have a lot of gray and want to cover it completely, use a Permanent (lasts until your hair grows out or you recolor) product. If you have 50% or more gray, use Nice 'n Easy Gray Solution.

HOW CAN I TEST-RUN A COLOR BEFORE COMMITTING TO COLORING MY ENTIRE HEAD OF HAIR?

Strand test is a simple method for you to test haircolor on a portion of your hair before doing the entire application. (The instructions are in your haircolor box.) It's an important step because it's the only way to see exactly how the shade you selected works with your starting haircolor to achieve the resulting color. A strand test will also help you determine the exact timing you'll need to color your whole head.

BEFORE YOU HIGHLIGHT

• Read this entire instruction leaflet including the SPECIAL CAUTIONS section before you begin.
• Do your STRAND TEST.
• Do not shampoo immediately before highlighting – your scalp has natural oils that help protect it. If hair has excess styling product build-up, shampoo the day before.
• Suitable for use on colored hair. However, do not use if hair has been colored with henna or metal dyes, double-processed (bleached and then colored), permed or relaxed. Uneven highlights or breakage may result.

STRAND TEST

Do the STRAND TEST each time you highlight to determine optimal timing and results. Sun, chlorine and previous hair coloring can affect your timing and results.You'll need: scissors, tape, plastic bowl, plastic spoon and a clock.

• Cut a 1/4 inch wide strand from the darkest part of your dry hair close to the scalp and tape at the cut end.
• Put on gloves. Shake Hi-Definition Highlighting Powder [1a] packette until contents settle to the bottom. Unscrew cap from Hi-Definition Highlighting Crème [1b] tube and puncture foil seal with pointed end of cap. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of Hi-Definition Highlighting Powder [1a], 1 teaspoon of Hi-Definition Highlighting Crème [1b] and 2 teaspoons of Developing Crème [2] in bowl. Completely cover hair strand with mixture (or just root area if highlighting root re-growth only).
• Start timing. After 15 minutes (or 30 minutes if you want greater lightening), wipe the strand clean. If the strand is not the color you want, return it to the mixture and check the color every 5 minutes for up to a maximum of 45 minutes in total. Remember – hair looks darker when wet!
• Rinse strand thoroughly and towel dry gently. If strand shows any breakage or looks gummy, do not proceed with highlighting your hair. Call the Expert Color Consultants for advice.
• Rinse and save gloves.

SPECIAL CAUTIONS

• This product contains ingredients including hydrogen peroxide, which may cause severe eye irritation and possible permanent eye injury. If any product gets into your eye, flush immediately with a large amount of lukewarm water and seek medical advice.
• We recommend removing contact lenses before applying highlighting mixture. If you must wear contact lenses during application and if any product gets into your eye, remove the lens first, then flush immediately with a large amount of lukewarm water and seek medical advice.
• Never use Herbal Essences Shade-on-Shade Highlights on eyebrows or eyelashes or if your scalp is irritated or injured. Do not apply product directly to scalp.
• If any product comes into contact with your skin, wash area immediately with lukewarm water.
• Do not inhale or ingest product.
• Do not use on hair that has been colored with henna or metal dyes or hair that is already double-processed (bleached and then colored).
• Do not use on permed, relaxed or extensively damaged hair.
• Prepare and use the product in a well-ventilated area. If you experience inhalation difficulties, move to fresh air.
• Remove all metal objects from hair before and during highlighting.
• Wear gloves and rinse hair well after application.
• Keep product in a cool place away from heat and light. Do not mix this with any other product. Do not keep any unused mixed product. Do not leave the mixture in a closed bottle (bottle may expand or burst).
• Product not intended to be used on children.

Well, I ordered a 2-pak of the HL2-e & ended up recieving 2 of the HL1-e & 1 of the HL2-e(the one I actually ordered)so no, I wasn't real happy with the fact that I didn't recieve what I ordered but yet was charged for it. It didn't matter that they sent me 3 items instead of 2 because I didn't get but one of the ones I had ordered. Doubt I'll ever go through that company again
