I recently read in one of Alice Medrich's books that the best crystallized ginger comes from Down Under, and in that book she recommended Royal Pacific as one of the best brands. Since the publication of that book (1994), Royal Pacific is now known as The Ginger People. (The VERY BEST Australian ginger is produced by Buderim, Queensland, but unfortunately only 3 of their many products are available for sale in the USA.)

Prior to trying the Baker's Cut, I had been to Penzey's and tried a small jar of their Australian Ginger (sold under their own brand so I have no idea who supplies it). There is a definite difference between the Penzey's ginger and the Ginger People's Baker's Cut; the Penzeys is noticeably sweeter, and the Baker's Cut has more heat. The ingredients on the Penzeys product is shown as "Cane sugar, ginger", whereas on the Baker's Cut is "Baby ginger, cane sugar". Since ingredient labels must begin with the highest-proportion ingredient and 'work downward', this isn't surprising.

I use the Baker's Cut for cooking and will be finishing up the Penzey's by nibbling. ;-) Not because the Penzeys is "better", but because the Ginger People's product has a flavor that will hold up much better when combined with other ingredients.

I have been buying this particular ginger for a long time. It had always come in cans that said made in Australia. The new plastic bagged ginger says made in Fuji. I am sort of a ginger expert and this new bagged version does not have the same taste of the old can version. Taste McCormick crystallized ginger in a small glass bottle and you will know what I mean. That ginger is from Australia. This is just another manufacturer cutting product quality to boost profits. I must believe that some people do not know the difference in taste since there are still good reviews of this new version in plastic bags.

I just received my crystallized ginger. Recently I made some gingerbread cupcakes, they were very nice, only I couldn't taste the powdered ginger. The recipe had molasses in it, that's all I could taste. I made some more cupcakes from the same recipe today, I added half a tin of this hoping the cakes would taste more gingery. It didn't work very well, I still only tasted the molasses.

This ginger tastes very nice on its own like candy. I'm sure if I use it in baking with recipes without molasses, it will be more successful. Meanwhile I'm quite happy just nibbling on them. They taste good.

So great to have this chipped ginger. Perfect to add to yogurt and granola, probably to baking as well. Saves a lot of time and sticky difficulty chipping in a grinder (I tried and it was a sticky mess). Even though small chips, the pieces are still moist. Also much better than the crystallized as much less sugar (though there is some). Thanks ginger people.

I understand that these little nuggets of ginger can be used in baking, but I like to eat them right out the can to settle my stomach. I have GERD, and I find these reduce the acid in my stomach, without having to take a pill. I prefer these to other versions of crystallized ginger, because the chunks are small, so the ginger taste is not over-powering, and there are no ginger fibers like one might find in bulk crystallized ginger. I have even made my own, but the ginger available on my grocery shelves is too fibrous to made good sweets.

I've been using Ginger People's ginger "baker's chips" (as it was formerly called) for many years, a very long time, actually. I use the chips in baking cookies, cakes and other desserts, and even use them as a 'crumb' topping on banana nut bread. I also toss in an entire package into fresh cranberry sauce when I make it seasonally. These chips are also very good for sweetening and flavoring tea; and add the benefit of soothing an upset stomach if needed. The chips used to come in nice little tin cans with plastic resealable tops, which I preferred. I'm not crazy about the plastic bags, even though they too are resealable, but I understand the reason for the company switching to this form of packaging. The Ginger People produce wonderful ginger products, and I buy their chunk-size crystallized ginger as well as their pickled sushi ginger which is absolutely wonderful, but unfortunately, it is seldom available through Subscribe & Save.

I probably shouldn't rave about this product too much because it may become even harder to get here on Amazon. But, no, a product this good deserves praise. And they have mine.

If you like ginger, these are wonderful. I add them to dozens of things, cookies, oatmeal, Chinese food... very easy to use and easy to digest. They are just small nuggets of crystalized ginger - no preservatives.

I've bought ginger chips before and they are like a potato chip: very thin, crispy and not covered in sugar. These are not ginger chips. They are the waste lumps, covered in more sugar than normal, left over from making crystallized ginger. Yet they are being sold for the same price as actual crystallized ginger and are not as satisfying to eat as real chips or bigger pieces. Think of these as cookie crumbs coated in sugar.
