The Creosote Sweeping Log works very well. They light readily and burn well, treating the existing creosote on the inside of the stove and chimney. Thereafter, the creosote hardens and falls off into the ash pile and burns up.

I followed the easy instructions, and just don't know if it worked. I don't notice any difference in my fireplace.

This log would NOT stay lit for anything. I sat on the floor for 30 minutes holding dozens and dozens of matches on/under/around it, just trying to get it to light & stay lit! (It says not to use any lighter fluid or starter sticks with it). Finally one corner of it burned for about 2 hours...then went out... I still have 80% of the log sitting in my fire place with the burned wrapper still on it. I tend to doubt it DID anything. I later read that it was never even tested for it's cleaning ability, only it's safety.
So, it's safe... probably because it's inflammable. But nobody really knows if it "sweeps" or not.
I only gave it 2 stars because I appreciate the THOUGHT of a chimney sweeping log - but until someone actually creates one that WORKS, I won't be buying any more.
