I was very surprised to see how many negative reviews this product has recieved! I've never had any issues with it and I find it to be a comprable solution to Quickbooks. This is great for small business' and has a similar interface that quickbooks has (which made my transition over to this product very smooth and stress free). Though I would still recommened bigger business' use Quickbooks, for my small business this was an awesome program and the price can't be beat!!!

Okay. I'm not one to bash any product, because I know products work differently for each individual. However, my experience has been so horrific that I feel inclined to share. I am a small business owner since 2005. I started using bookkeeper since the start of my company. Each year I've endured lagging tax table updates, worse yet lagging tax forms being released which resulted in late W2s being sent out one year, and problematic updates. I stopped updating the software in 2009 because when I upgraded the software I had problems updating my database. It took technical support two weeks before they fixed the problem and meanwhile I was handwriting employee checks (I know....embarassing). I did, however, continue to update my tax tables and because they did not solve the tax form issues so close to the deadline, purchased separate software to process W2s. Updating to 2011 was the WORST experience. It took me 3 calls and I was put on hold at a minimum of 30 minutes each. Roughly an hour and a half. Because Avanquest couldn't solve the updating database issue (AGAIN!), I was transferred to Nova Development. I was put in a queue of 11 (not bad) an hour and 45 minutes later...some dips--t picks up the phone and hangs up. I was unable to breathe, I was so furious. Well when Avanquest transferred me to them, they failed to give me ND's number. So I had another 30 minutes on hold with Avanquest, explained my situation, asked to be directed to a supervisor at ND so I wouldn't have to hold, was IGNORED and put in a queue of 19!!! 45 minutes later, in tears, I broke and called my dad who thankfully has a pretty strong grasp of computers.Read more ›

I could not get the software to work (2012 edition). I could not convert from Quickbooks because the integrated application list on QB did not list Bookkeeper. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but then it would not start but had the same error message as a past reviewer (older version with newer database) and it would shut down. No support on the weekends.

Why can't some company come up with an alternative to Quickbooks? Everybody hates Quickbooks so a good alternative would fill a vacuum in the marketplace.

I am a bookkeeper by trade and I bought this product for my husband's business. Not wanting to spend too much money for a start up company. Anyway the software is fairly easy to set up, but once set up it is impossible to make changes and correct mistakes. (Everybody makes them!) Journal entries are a mess and I have had problems with the dating of transactions also. Customer support is HORRIBLE! Please just spend the money on Quickbooks or other reputable software!

This company will charge your credit card, then you will never hear from them. I clicked on the "download program" after paying for it which uninstalled my prior Bookkeeper program and restarted my computer. When the computer came back on, there was no Bookkeeper program installed, nor did I have the promised email with the download link. Went to online chat, and they told me to call Technical Support. Called them, and was told I needed a customer support number which costs $9.99 - I just want to download the program that I have already paid them for! Asked to speak with a supervisor, and they hung up on me. This was after being on hold for over 45 minutes. STAY AWAY!!!

I am not impressed with this product.

It helps to be a professional accountant so that you can understand the software works, but a professional accountant would never use this. The "manual" explains nothing about how the software works, but is rather a 200-page list of where the buttons are located.

I am a small business owner providing service-based assets (not goods-based) and have had to use some of the features with my own definitions (my clients have to be listed as "Companies"). I bought this because my accounting needs are VERY simple. However, if you ever need to modify an invoice or a payment, you have to go through about eight different steps because the design of the software is not sophisticated enough to make the kinds of query associations that you could get from a simple Access database.

Since tax withholding information was not included in the software, I purchased this from Avanquest for the same cost as the software itself. It doesn't work and the promised web instructions never appear. I may call Avanquest for help, though after reading other users' reviews of their customer service, I may just eat the cost and save myself four hours of tech support agony.
