No spring to the tongs so they had no tension to open. They were more like long pliers or kinda worked when managed like chopsticks.
I live on my grill and was hoping for essentially a longer version of the OXO 16" tongs for help with higher heat conditions. These
are a total no-go. Maybe I got a bad one, but that's the only one I had in hand to review. Anyone suggest a good 20" or 20+" set of
tongs?

The problem with these tongs is the spring tension. The first one I received had no spring tension at all. DEFECTIVE. I sent it back via Amazon and within 3 days had another pair. The spring tension is very weak to say the least. They don't "spring open" as fast as the shorter version of tongs do. I needed these longer tongs to keep from getting burned when moving coal and wood around the firebox of my smoker. These probably won't last a year before the spring tension is gone. However, American ingenuity is at work to build and replace the spring from my own design and make this a great pair of tongs. The material and construction of the tongs is very good except for the spring tension. If you can't repair this item on your own, don't waste your money.

Wanted these for the same reason everyone else did, I don't like cooking my hands on the grill. Like the other review said, the spring on this is super weak, it does open it, but with little authority. Other than that, they work, kinda.

My Grill pro 20 inch Professional Tongs arrived today. I want to like them! But!! they are cheeply made. The spring is to weak. The front of the tongs should have a curve so the edges can grab the food. This pair is almost flat which mean you have to use more presure to hold food.

Just as all the other reviews state, the spring is too weak, I did guess on one from Menards and now its too strong. Other issue I don't like is that the lock slides down when using it and "auto-locks". Was thinking of just removing it.

I shouldn't have gotten the kind that lock. When they open, they don't stay open (they tighten when I don't want them to). Really not well made it seems. Got them for their long length re. grilling over camp fire.

I like these because they are really long and I can handle food over a hot grill without burning my hand. They are really solid. My only complaint is that the sliding lock doesn't stay in place. It always moves and prevents the tongs from fully opening up. I am always fiddling with the lock. I would cut it off, but the ring for hanging them on a hook is part of the sliding lock. If the manufacturer could fix the lock, these would be perfect.

I love the size, but it has a locking device that makes it impossible to use. I took removed the locking device and it works great however it remains fully open in the drawer. I bought 2 of them. Now I love them.
