Product Description

Prepare yourself for the kind of fun that requires safety goggles as the MythBusters team takes on tales of exploding pants, steam-powered machine guns and jailbreak methods and blasts a host of hoaxes to smithereens. Then it's time for martinis and tuxedos as Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage put 007's most outrageous gadgets, getaways and guns to the test in action that will leave you shaken and stirred!

Salsa Escape: Jamie and Adam attempt to bust out of a Mexican jail using only salsa - will spicy or mild be the best choice? Then in the biggest blast test yet, the MythBusters see if a massive amount of explosives can break up a cement truck filled to the brim with hardened cement.

Exploding Port-a-Potty: Could you wind up with third-degree burns from a port-a-potty by lighting a cigarette inside it? The build team will use Adam's "special sample" and find out if human waste can really create enough methane to produce this explosive result.

Exploding Pants: Jamie and Adam probe a farm fashion disaster as they solve the mystery of a farmer's exploding pants. Then Adam and Jamie tackle "the Great Gas Conspiracy" and investigate whether the fuel and car companies deliberately make gas-guzzling cars to increase their profits.

Air-Cylinder Rocket: Can a cracked valve on a compressed-air cylinder actually blast the tank through a cinder-block wall? The MythBusters team builds the launch pad?then runs for cover. Then Jamie and Adam explore whether it's possible to get an engine running with black powder.

Exploding Lighter: Find out if leaving a small butane cigarette lighter in your car on a sunny day can cause your vehicle to explode into flames. Next, the MythBusters try and shoot down some popular "Gunslinger" myths, such as, "is it possible to shoot a hole clean through a tossed coin"?

Grenades and Guns: Jame and Adam tackle Tinseltown action-hero cliches: Will a heroic dive onto a live grenade actually save your buddies? Will dunking the ticking time bomb in water dampen the explosion? And finally, will putting a grenade in the fridge chill things out?

Exploding Water Heater: Join the MythBusters as they see if an ordinary water heater can build up so much pressure that it rockets through the roof of a house! Meanwhile, the team tries on some all-American legends about blue jeans' flammability.

Confederate Steam Gun: The team creates a mythic Civil War-era weapon: a steam-powered machine gun rumored to have fired 400 rounds a minute at a 300-yard range. But could it shoot to kill? And find out if you really can trip up the results in a polygraph test.

James Bond Special - Part 1: See the MythBusters create a watch that can deflect a bullet like Bond's could in Live and Let Die, and find out if it's possible to blow up a propane tank by shooting it with a handgun. Then the team recreates 007's most spectacular speed-boat getaways and more killer spy-movie magic.

James Bond Special - Part 2: In Part 2, Jamie and Adam pack high explosives into an ordinary ballpoint pen, create a deadly bowler hat to see if it could really slice the head off a statue and build giant steel jaws to see if a metal-mouthed super villain could really chomp through steel cables.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another arbitrary collection of episodes from the best show on TV, December 21, 2008
By K. Gray "you know, that guy" (Oneonta, NY United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have nothing but good things to say about Mythbusters as a show. There are some people out there who pick apart Adam and Jamie's techniques or their conclusions, but to those people I say I dare you to find another show on TV that is so compelling, interesting, fun to watch, or that works so well at making you more interested and curious about the world we live in.

However, I have an issue with the way Discovery is compiling these DVD series. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. In the first two collections they brought out, the episodes included were completely arbitrary. At least this series has a "theme:" Big Blasts, but still, why can't they just bring these episodes out as a SEASON like most other TV productions? The damage is done now, so I guess from here on out we'll end up with collection after collection of Mythbusters where we'll have NO IDEA what we'll get until we open the box.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't ever try this at home, October 4, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This series worth to get it. It's not only about the technical stuff. It's about few smart people with a show with decent budget. Figure a way to make thing happen without spending too much. Like what you would be doing at home (I would thank to worn me...). For once, listen DON'T ever, never try any of that at home and in a certain way Adam shouldn't be around too. But it's part of the show and makes it goofy.

They are excellent entertainer. They get your technical curiosity going, you want to know if the myth is based on fact and soon or later you will laugh. It's an genius show and I love seeing the reel "Boom and it's gone", "now you see it, now you don't", compare of what you see on TV, and I forget to tell you, it's fun too. Excellent show, A must have.
