Good, Reliable Shredder - Doesn't Jam, August 20, 2009
This review is from: Black & Decker CC1500 15 sheet crosscutpaper shredder with heavy duty induction motor graphite (Electronics)
I am very hard on my shredders. I have gone through several over the past couple of years. My major complaints with previous shredders are they are noisy and regularly jam. Why shouldn't I be able to put staples, paperclips, credit cards, and CDs through my shredder? All previous shredders have often failed at these tasks, until I got my Black & Decker 15 sheeter (model CC1500). So far, it has taken everything I have given it and asked for more. It also operates nice and quietly (from what I understand, because of the "induction" motor). I used to have a roommate who thought I was drilling something and would complain, but I was actually just using my shredder. Luckily, I don't have that roommate anymore, but also I don't have the problem of a noisy shredder. The shredder also has a sleek design and a large bin for storing all those shreddings. I am a bit lazy, so don't like to have to empty my shredder on a regular basis. Overall, I am very happy with my shredder and would recommend it to friends, family, and anyone else looking for a good, reliable shredder.

Poor Design for a small office shredder, June 16, 2010
This review is from: Black & Decker CC1500 15 sheet crosscutpaper shredder with heavy duty induction motor graphite (Electronics)
I have used this product in my small office for about six months. I intend to replace it at my first opportunity.
Black & Decker has designed a shredder with a quiet, powerful motor and moderately heavy-duty cutters, but they obviously fell far short in the overall design of this product. The waste container is the most poorly designed one that I have seen on any shredder. For a unit as tall as the CC1500 the waste container is surprisingly small and the cuttings pile up in such a way that the motor cuts off automatically, indicating a full basket, when the basket is only about half full. The user must continually stop to press the cuttings down in the waste basket or to empty the basket completely. Most users would prefer to use a plastic liner in the basket to make emptying the unit quick and tidy; not on this shredder! The interior of the basket is full of jutting sharp edges that cut long holes in any liner that is pulled out of the basket. Attempting to dump a full basket with no liner is equally frustrating because of the basket's front end which extends quite far above the rest of the basket edge, causing shards of shredded paper to fly all over the place. In all, it's a supremely messy exercise to empty the basket and it has to be done frequently.
The other shortcoming of this shredder is also true of most shredders in its category: the cuttings are too large and uniform to be of much real security. At about 1/4-inch by 1 and 1/4 inches, the cuttings are far too large. True, it would take some time to do it, but anyone who has ever put a jigsaw puzzle together could easily reconstruct a document that has been put through this machine. Those who have worked in a truly secure environment will readily recognize its shortcomings as a security device. If all you want to shred are credit card offers and junk mail, it is probably adequate; for sensitive material it is not.

Good shredding, but, poor basket design, May 31, 2010
This review is from: Black & Decker CC1500 15 sheet crosscutpaper shredder with heavy duty induction motor graphite (Electronics)
The good:
1. Very effective shredder. Shreds and shreds and doesn't heat. I've gone for about an hour and it still keeps going.
2. Works great with paper, clips, staples, dvds etc. Nothing has jammed this shredder.
The bad:
1. The waste basket is very poorly designed. Every time I try to remove paper, I always end up dropping paper pieces on the floor. The problem is that one side is really high and it's really hard to invert the basket into the garbage without creating a mess.
2. The basket size is small for a shredder this size. I need to keep shaking it since the shredded paper piles on the center and touches the blade when the sides of the basket are empty.
2. If i put more than 16 pages at a time, it jams. I understand it's expected, but, the smaller black and decker models (8 sheet) have a power boost option that give it an extra bit of power when you accidently put in more than the allowed pages. I wish this shredder had the same option.
Overall, although the shredder is good, I'm dissapointed with the basket design, and wouldnt recommend this product if you're spending close to 200$. I would instead go with a fellowes shredder which is as effective and has a better basket design.
