We looked around at all the options and finally went with this kit for our 2 year old. I'm glad we did. The items included to get the bugs into the viewing chambers are well constructed and simple to use even for our little guy. Once you have a bug in the various viewing chambers you have magnifying lenses for up close views and clear sides for 360 deg viewing angles. The larger viewing chamber has a little partition that divides the space into input area and viewing area. It was fun to add new bugs to the input area and then move them to the viewing portion. The viewing portion is sealed up so the bugs won't fall out when your kid turns the whole thing upside down. The input area has a little flap to open and close in order to add new bugs to your collection. Everything is well vented and spacious enough for a day of fun bug catching. I would recommend this kit to any parent looking to add some adventure to your own backyard.

I purchased two of these kits because my kids love to collect bugs. In the past I purchased cheaper kits from Target, and Michael's and they always broke within a week. This set has lasted two months so far with heavy use. The only thing that does not work is the compass which I kind of expected for the price. My kids have caught and brought home more bugs than I care to remember. We now have a new rule if you catch it and bring it home, I expect you to research the bug, observe it overnight and tell (for my 4yo) or write a 1 page report(for my 7yo) about the captured bug. For any insect lovers out there we release the bugs the next day in the same location in which they were captured.

This was a gift for a 4 year old grandson in Colorado. I live in Arizona so didn't see it but my daughter just raved about it. Every item it contained was very durable.....excellent quality. My grandson plays with it every day and he's pretty rough on toys.

Bought this for my 3 year old granddaughter who is currently in to catching crickets. She loved it, she is able to use the catcher tool and box all by herself she has a blast with it. No complaints, perfect for kids who are interested in bugs!

I just got this in the mail, and I am shocked. I went back and looked at the reviews, and none of them were recent. My bad. This came in a small white box. In other words, it is not a boxed gift. The box was white and had no label whatsoever. So if you are giving it as a gift, it looks like you assembled it and stuck it in a box. It LITERALLY looks like something you would get at the dollar store. The plastic is very VERY thin. The bug box is extremely small. If a two month old holds the net, they could snap it with one finger. All of the items are very small. Typically, bug "houses" are at least 10 inches across. This is really really small. I have no idea how they could ever possibly get away with charging $30 for this, let alone the $10.99 I paid. I rarely get things from Amazon that I sent back, unless they don't fit, and this is absolutely getting sent back. I may pay $3 for this at Five Below, as a throw away gift, but this is absolute junk. I am guessing the other reviews were for a different version of this product. There is no way anyone could find this product satisfying.

Our 4-year-old son used to be scared of bugs, but had been showing some interest in catching them under cups, so we got him this kit for Christmas. He absolutely LOVED it and uses the little "scissors" (as he calls them) to catch bugs all over the house (we live in the woods). The only downside is that the plastic is thin and the two bug containers broke within a month of use - albeit use by a rowdy 4-year-old. If it had been a bit sturdier, it would have gotten 5-stars and I would have gladly paid a bit more for it.
