This step up ring is metal but it's lightweight. It's easy to screw on and off, basically it just works.

Amazon's price seems to be pretty good on these, the local camera shop wanted at least twice as much.

There's not much else to say, if you need one buy it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I got this 40.5 - 58mm step up ring for a Nikon V1, and planned to use it with a B+W CPL and B+W ND filter. As noted by some others, my CPL filter bound tightly to this step-up ring and would not let loose. After my photo walk, I used a travel hair dryer to gently warm up the step-up ring and with some effort finally released it from the CPL. This is unacceptable for me, in that once it's stuck (in the field), I'm limited to only one filter. Given the low price, I will keep this ring and use it on a dedicated 58-84mm Cokin P-adapter. It's a use for which I don't mind if the two are permanently stuck together.

Now I have on order a Heliopan brass step-up ring (from B and H Photo), which claims to avoid any binding issues with metal filters since the brass threads are more malleable. I was happy to spend twenty six bucks for a quality product which won't lock up on me when I need flexibility...

Looking at the step up ring, most people purchasing this product is most likely buying this because they have one filter that they want to use on all there lenses. Well I bought this step up ring to do the same thing. The material build feels like it could bend easily but it is very light. Take in consideration that this step up ring is pretty cheap, so don't expect to run this step up ring with a car and expect it to seem like nothing happened to it. I used this filter ring with a decently thin fader filter. I have no vignetting. I use this on a Nikon D90 35-70mm F 2.8 lens if this information helps.

I ordered this step-up ring after my new 72-77mm Adorama step-up ring let my circular polarizer fall to the ground. I found that ring did not have proper threading to secure the filter no matter how carefully I screwed it on.

After that bad experience, I made sure I thoroughly checked out the Fotodiox ring and found that it holds the filter and screws into the lens very securely.

I purchased this Step Up ring to use on my Canon SX 40 HS because I read that the hood I had purchased for my camera required one. However, after receiving the hood, I found that I did not need this because the hood was not as described. Unfortunately, I sent this item back, but will buy from this seller again because the product was great and a very good price!

So I had these 14 year old Sony lens laying around from my old Sony DCR-TRV900 camcorder, the lenses are the Sony VCL1452H Telephoto Conversion Lens & the Sony VCLR0752H High Resolution Wide Angle Lens.

The Fotodiox Metal Step Up Ring (43mm-52mm) was all I needed to adapt the Sony lenses to my Canon Vixia HF M-40 camcorder. This setup works beautifully, as with most consumer camcorders, the wide setting is not wide enough and the telephoto setting don't go far enough, with these two old lenses in my bag the Canon camcorder is a lot more capable.

I'll put up pics in the photo area of what this setup looks like.

Fits perfect. Screws on and off both my 77mm lenses smoothly. My 86mm filter has coarser threads and it also goes on and off smoothly. About all you can ask for, right? Much cheaper than buying several filters. If you are concerned about your lens hood not working with a bigger filter, and you believe you need one for a particular situation, buy a screw-on hood to fit the larger filter, or do like I do and use your hand or newspaper or anything handy to block the sun from getting in the front of the lens. That has worked for me for years. Good filters aren't cheap, and the fewer you have to buy the better. Step-up rings will save you a lot of money if you have just a few different size lenses.

This works well for what I needed it for. It's aluminium and the threads could be stronger (steel isn't as brittle), but I have not damaged mine during use. Paint will come off easily if scratched, but I do not consider that important. I also have the Fotodiox 7 Step Up Ring Filter Adapter Set, Anodized Aluminum, 49-52mm, 52-55mm, 55-58mm, 58-62mm, 62-67mm, 67-72mm, 72-77mm set which is much more cost effect and wish this came with it.

This was used with one of my LTM lenses.

Wrong size. Imprinted label on the side says 40.5mm. Measured at 40mm. Won't fit on a Nikon f2.8 50mm projector lens which uses 40.5mm threads. Buy at your own risk.
