This medication has changed my life for the better. I have been taking it for two years and it works very well for me. I take one pill a day and do not have to worry about bad effects from milk products. I was miserable before and none of the other so-called "lactose intolerance" medications worked. This one works and is convenient.

I do suspect that they have changed their ingredients in the newer boxed pills as it does not seem quite as effective. If you can find the blue box stick with that. The green box does not work as well.

I've been taking this for the past 5 years and it works very well. I can pretty much eat what I choose without having to worry about the consequences. However, I cannot drink regular dairy milk, that is still too much.

But compared to all the other options that require you to take them right before meals, I'll take one pill per day any day. And they seem to be much more effective when taken in the morning, vs. at night.

I can't personally vouch for the long-term use Digestive Advantage Lactose Defense Formula, but my intermittent use over a period of several months is very impressive. Once my system is set off by a dairy product, the effects are really noticeable and it takes 10 days to a couple of weeks for it restabilize. I used Digestive Advantage for periods of several days up to a couple of weeks when I knew I'd be wanting to eat dairy daily. It worked like a charm -- not the slightest problem when eating normal servings of various dairy products. The friend who recommended it to me uses it daily, every day, and had used it for several years with good results.

One a day wont allow me to drink milk or eat ice cream but it does allow me to have cheese on my salad, sandwich or pizza and it covers most small amounts of lactose in many foods.

If one a day doesnt work for you, try two.

Its hard to believe so many people take the old lactaid pills when they cost more and you have to take more.

I do have one question though.

Do the pills need to remain in the packaging prior to being taken ?

If so, why use that kind of packaging ?

If not, why not use bottles ?

I use a 7 day pill planner and its a pain to cut the packaging so that each days will fit.

And another thing, if you insist on stupid packaging, why not label them with the days of the week ?

Too complicated for them to figure out ?

I buy 3 boxes at a time off amazon. But really, the stuff should & could be packaged in much larger size bottles of 150-180+ pills and it would be far more economical to buy.

Nobody that takes these pills is going to wake up one day and decide to stop taking them. We are going to take them for life.

Oh, and I noticed that when taking these & Zoloft together, the zoloft seems to cause a need to to run to the bathtoom fairly soon afterwards.

When I take them a few hours apart, I dont get that.

After using several different brands of lactase supplements I was hooked on these the first time I purchased them. A great once a day solution.

My son and I can't really have dairy at all. When we accidentally get something with dairy in it, we take this stuff and it really helps cut back on digestive upset and gas. So, we use this to help symptoms subside. I've never found a product that allows me to have dairy products added back to my diet but this is the best I've found so far to help reduce symptoms.

My son has difficulty tolerating milk or milk products. Purchasing Lactaid products can be costly. He drinks 1/2 gallon of milk a day. The Lactaid milk is very tasty but expensive. After taking the caplets (2 a day) for a month his symptoms (Gas and Cramping) have improved but not resolved. The cost of the caplets is less than buying Lactaid milk ( $4.99 a 1/2 gallon) and the store brand is usually $4.29 a 1/2 gallon. A months supply of caplets is approx $15.00 and if you do the math it is a great alternative to buying the Lactaid milk. So if you have a problem with lactose than give the product a try you may be surprised and save some dough. (Reviewed by Eileen- Melissa's mom)
