Product Description

Product Description

Ravensburger Rivers, Roads & Rails GameLet's Play! There are 140 picture tiles that show segments of rivers, roads, and rails. Place all of the picture tiles face down in the box or on the playing surface. Each player draws two picture tiles from the box and puts them face up in front of them. The players then take turns adding their pictures tiles on to an expanding network of rivers, roads, and rails. But there's a catch! Some tiles may have rivers and some may just have roads and rails, so you may not always be able to make a match. If this is the case, then draw another picture tile from the box and wait for your next turn. Once the picture tiles from the box are gone, the first player to get rid of all of their tiles wins. What Do You Learn? Observation skills, Matching, Recognition, Association.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rivers, Roads & Rails Really Rocks!, December 18, 2009
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is one of my favorites to play with my child. The object is to match up cardboard tiles that have beautiful scenes of rivers, roads, and/or rails on them. It teaches pattern recognition in a big way, because the tiles don't all match up: some have a curving river, some have a straight road, some have all three types, some even have all three on one side and two, or only one carrying on at the other end of the tile. Each player has tiles of his or her own and when it is your turn, you take a tile from the draw pile and connect it (or one you already have) to the randomly-chosen first tile. The network of transportation corridors becomes fascinating, and I have found that when my family plays this game, the competitive aspect fades away a bit, as each player becomes more interested in the developing transportation network, then he or she is in winning.

This game is excellent too because it can be played by a single person: trying to use as many tiles as possible, or just making interesting scenes.

A large table is ideal for playing this game, but a smaller table simply makes it more challenging... and using the floor opens up all kinds of possibilities. The tiles can't be bumped or someone has to realign them by hand, so it may not be a good game for hyperactive children unless they are really into it. People who like jigsaw puzzles should like this game.

This game stimulates a player's intelligence by challenging his or her spatial aptitude. A player who has the ability to see connections in the ever-increasingly complicated playing area will do well at this game. "Rivers, Roads & Rails" takes our family about an hour to play, and sometimes we don't finish, but instead of putting it away, we add some more tiles to make our bustling industrial area LOOK finished.
