I am not sure I can post the photos I took, which are plentiful. I have a Kontessa from 15-20 years ago. Good quality manufacture but always leaked at the screw top section. Hardly used it. I liked the design so I bought myself a new one. Disaster! Handle was crooked, the attaching piece of the pot to the handle was not seated correctly and had all rust in the cracks, leaking again from the screw section, bubbles from the steam valve (not steam), inside metal rim of bottom section was so sharp I cut my hand twice trying to wash it. I am returning this item for full credit.

BUYER BEWARE.
I was extremely disappointed in this pot. The plating on the horizontal bar which attaches the handle to the pot started to peel at the edges after a couple of uses. The handle is not parallel to the pot but on an angle. The edges inside the lid and the base are sharp. After cutting myself while washing the base, I learned to be more careful so now go through lots of sponges instead. I bought this as a gift and returned the first one. The seller authorization came along with a note saying they would want the other one back. Since it was a defective product I requested they pay for postage. Never received the return instructions. The second one had the same problem. Since I still had the first including the box, I noticed both had a slash on the boxes as if nicked with a box cutter. Since some suppliers mark boxes in this way when they are seconds, I wonder if these are seconds.

I've used Bialetti stove top coffee makers/moka pots for years (aluminum and stainless), but since I needed a SS pot for daily use, I decided to try out the 6 cup Vev Vigano Kontessa due to rave reviews of this brand.

APPEARANCE:
When I received it, the box had a slash on it from a box cutter as another reviewer had mentioned. The box looked like it had been crushed and through hell and back. The pot itself inside still looked ok. Only complaints on the appearance I have is that although the finish of the SS is polished and feels smooth, it does not look entirely smooth with "ripples" in the reflection of the polished surface--you do have to really stare at it to notice. Also, the handle had a roughness to it on some parts. I couldn't tell if it was the metal or if it was just some unknown residue stuck to the handle. The inside appeared to look brand new and unused. If you don't stare too hard at it and look for any imperfections, it is a beautiful moka pot!

OPERATION/BREWING:
I first followed the instructions for cleaning with baking soda, then ran about 5 pots--1 water only and the rest with coffee to "season" the components before making any pots for drinking. First two runs went fine. On the 3rd pot, I may have put too fine of a grind in the basket, b/c no coffee came out of it after 6 minutes on the stove. The safety valve did not release anything, so it did not blow (I know what this sounds like from past experience on another pot). On the 4th pot, coffee brewed fine, but I noticed that water/steam was bubbling and sputtering out from the safety valve, near the outer edge where meets the stainless steel base. My other moka pots have never done this before. This did not occur on subsequent runs.Read more ›

I've been using this stovetop espresso maker for a few years, unfortunately...The water chamber appear to be coated with some teflon-like substance when I first purchased it, and soon became discolored in a multi-colored metallic way....I called espressozone.com who i had bought it from, and they said it was normal...packaging states that it's all stainless steel, but it isn't, for sure....I use filtered PUR water only, so it's not a water issue....I really dismissed it could be the cause of some of my health issues because it seemed so minor...but then I came across other review today that corroborate what I've thought all along...it's not normal and could cause health problems. I'm officially recycling it and getting a different one. I do use it 1-2 times a day, and yes it has some corrosion in the water chamber that is unexplainable, given that stainless steel is not supposed to be able to rust or corrode...I'd avoid this entire company's product line if I were you.

After years of messy stove overflows and sloppy pouring, finally a stovetop espresso maker worth its price! The Vev-Vigano Kontessa Gold 12-cup size is perfect for two people who love espresso to have coffee together in the morning... Superb machining and design eliminate problems associated with cheapo aluminum pots--worth its somewhat steep pricetag. I bought a second one for my daughter, who works police dispatch in 12-hour nocturnal shifts. Recommended--best ever!

If you are in the market for a sturdy little espresso maker and don't want to devote major kitchen space to one of those monster industrial looking electric machines you might want to give this one a try. I have been using a stove top pot for years and when I decided to gift one to my son and my brother this is the one I picked. They both insist that it was the best gift ever. But, don't make the mistake of using substandard coffee, no machine or pot will make it taste good.
