Having used Panasonic shavers for some years, I automatically replaced both cutter and screen with this unit. From the outset it tugged, irritated my skin and was clearly not what I had expected. The quality appears to have been changed to a cheaper and less precise unit. I'm off to Norelco.

Having a heavy beard has made me look for alternatives to wet shaving for a very long time. I have bought many electrics, from the top of the line Norelco's to the top of the line Braun's. There was nothing particularly wrong with any of them, but none of them did a great job on my neck, which required me to shave for a long and tiring time, or to finish up with a wet shave, which sort of defeated the purpose.

After reading various internet sites I finally decided to buy the top of the line Panasonic ES8249K (at least at the time it was). It was by far the most comfortable electric I have ever used and also gave me the closest shave--often better then wet. While no electric has ever been perfect for me in my neck area, the Panasonic was easily the best. I didn't have to press as hard as with the other shavers to get a close shave--and it was also much easier (due to its light weight and hand comfort) to shave in different directions on my neck to get a very close shave. Heck, I have even used this electric after a wet shave and it gets the beard even closer. I couldn't be more pleased.

Some people complain about its higher pitch noise, but it seems less loud then most electrics to me. It is an expensive razor and the replacement foils and cutters are more expensive than most other electrics, but the superiority of the Panasonic makes it the superior choice by far to me.

Plus, you can shave dry or wet with this razor. The cartridges for cleaning the razor are easy to install and much less cumbersome (and infinitely smaller) then the Braun cartridges.

I have a Panasonic ES8243A that I have used for two years and the blades held up wonderfully. When it was time for new blades I purchased these Panasonic WES9021PC blade replacements. They fit perfectly but don't seem to be the same quality as the original parts. The new head is a very thin plastic and even the blades didn't look or feel like they were well made. Being Panasonic brand I expected higher quality not some cheap knockoff. The color clashes with the old unit too.
