The cartridge I got was NOT the one in the photo, but I consider this a GOOD thing since the one I received more closely resembles the original Brother cartridge I had than the one in the photo does.

Dropped in and the printer (HL-2140) picked up on it right away, I did not need to turn off the printer, or do anything "funny" to get the printer working again. Opened the front bay, popped it in and it works. I cannot yet comment on the yield (claimed 2,600 pages) since I have printed a grand total of one page thus far. This product would get 5 stars if I could come back and edit this later after meeting or exceeding the stated yield, but since I don't _know_ how many pages this cartridge will run through, I can't give it 5 stars.

Short Version
Physically Fits? Yes.

This product works perfectly...as I expected.

Unfortunately, I was not talented enough to know that the "drum" was attached to the cartidge unit and called the company to tell them that it seemed to be the wrong product.

The company called me back and explained the situation. I was pleased.

However, I had to go to Best Buy and ask one the Geek Squad people how to seperate the 2 units and he gladly did.

I am now up and running and the cartrige performs just as the Brother cartridge did.

Purchased this cartridge in December of 2011, it is now November of 2013. Basically 2 years.

"Toner Low" light has just started to flash, but pages are printing fine still, so I will not replace it yet. I use the tape trick to cover the windows on each side of the toner so the printer thinks it's still full (Google this if you don't know what it means).

Here are the stats:

Original factory "starter" cartridge lasted 462 pages.
My current page count is 4065.
This cartridge has printed just over 3600 pages. Most all 8.5 x 11, with a hundred or so legal size and maybe 2 dozen envelopes. Basic word processor text documents.

If I get another 100 pages out of it before print quality degrades, I'll have 3700 pages from this cartridge.
IIRC, the original toner went and went and went after the amber light came on, so I might get well over 100 more.

Wanting to avoid paying the exorbitant costs for the branded version of this product, I purchased this one at 1/4 the price. It didn't work in my Brother 2170W printer. And, stupidly, I waited 30 days before filing a return claim. The seller (Pacific Direct Source Group) was still kind enough to provide a refund. So, I figured I'd try again. And, wouldn't you know it, the second one works fine. I guess the sensors in the printer are touchy and Brother tries to make it hard to use non-branded toner, but the customer service from the seller was great, and I'm satisfied that my basic printer is again printing at an affordable price.

If you need a decent replacement for an "official" Brother toner and you're not going to be printing a lot of important documents this may barely cut it. After a moderate use I started getting some fuzzy letters and a thin black vertical line through the page. For me, since I use it mostly to print pdf files and books, and I'm not overly concerned with the way the page looks, it's good enough. But, if you often need to print your resume or official documents, get something else.

The cartridge worked well! And for $12 bucks it beats the $79 HIGH PRICE HP branded unit at Office Depot.

The cartridge performed well enough... and better than expected for the $12 price tag.

NOTE: I did not do any testing to validate how many pages were printed or how many did not print as expected... not really worried about doing a super indepth review for a $12 part. But generally speaking this unit is WELL WORTH the $12 we spent.

The 5 stars are for great value with good performance.

I just installed this cartridge and it is make black marks on the edge of EVERY page a print. I cleaned it out yesterday and it only print 2 or 3 pages without the black marks then started again. I guess I need to spend more money on a cartridge, I have had some other no name cartridge that work great. Just before this i brought the brother cartridge and had NO problems, i guess you get what you pay for.
