I purchased this for my 8 month old daughter to put inside her play area and provide a cushioned surface as she is still perfecting crawling and trying to stand. Love the price. Pieces are bright and go together well. The 12" size is small enough where I can do different configurations if needed. I am not worried about her pulling the letters out - I don't think she will get to that point for a while.
When she is older, we can use it for more play, education, and building fun, but for now, it is a nice play surface. I like the idea that I can take off pieces to clean them when they get dirty.
The company, We Sell Mats, was awesome - they shipped it quickly (faster than even Amazon on this order) and called me to verify my order since I had gotten two sizes. Would highly recommend.
I did not notice any overpowering smell, as one review mentioned.
