Despite previous unfavorable reviews, I purchased two of these because of the perfect size for our 5-pound Maltese and the quite favorable reviews of the smaller 44" gate. Each took less than 5 minutes to set up and securely install. No tools were needed except for an Allen wrench included in the package. The dog can push against the gate without it giving. It does not mar the walls and, if needed, can be removed within a minute. This gate does what it claims to do.

We just got a puppy who will only be 8 pounds. The problem we had is we also have two 13 year old cats. This gate allows the cats to get to their food and litter box and the puppy to stay away from the food and litter. It is the Perfect Height to step over and keep peace in our household. The gate is sturdy and adjusts great. I love it.

It took a lot of research to find a gate that would span the distance I needed of 80"! I finally settled on this one because of the length and the price. When I finally got the gate, it was easy to put together, but it ended up being very flimsy and easily bowed out in the middle. It also did nothing to keep in my Pug/Chihuahua mix dog. This gate may work for you if you are trying to keep in a teacup dog or a small puppy, but don't bother for any other breeds. Overall, it was a waste of money for me.

I was disapointed in the gate, by the time we tightened gate in place, in bowed in the middle (middle is not stable enough to take pressure)... soon it fell over, and we finally had to add a board to stablize it, we ducktaped the board on across the bottom, and we were able to keep it from bowing.

I would spend more money, and get a better gate.

I purchased this particular Walk Over Wooden Gate for our 5 month old Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy. It was important to me that it was adjustable so we could use it to block off a larger entryway into our kitchen when needed. The height of the gate is appropriate for a corgi puppy. She stands on her hind legs and drapes her front paws over the top of it, but it helps keep her out of trouble. The mid section of the gate does have a little give to it, but this is not meant to be a heavy duty barrier and it does not effect it's functionality.

Corgis aren't all that great at the whole jumping thing, so I'm not concerned about her ability to clear the top of the gate. If you've got a small jumper on your hands, just consider the height carefully before making your purchase. Also, because it's wood and it has a few knobs and bumpers, it can quickly be perceived as a chew toy by a curious pup. Bitter apple spray worked for us.

Pros:

- It's portable. The gate is lightweight, adjustable, and does not have permanent fixtures.

- Secure and reliable. When it is positioned and adjusted properly, the gate remains snugly in place.

Cons:

- Adjustable knob system looks simple at first glance, but it's actually very easy to adjust it the wrong way the first few times. The inner plastic pieces on the screws should be guiding the adjustment, not the outer bumpers that hold the gate securely in place against the wall. They should be up against the wood of the gate and as you turn them, the bumpers should gradually adjust outward towards the wall.

- I have 3 of these gates. One

It took me a long time to find a reasonably priced pressure-mounted "baby gate" (this is not a baby gate and not to be used to protect children) that would fit our 73 inch threshold, and I settled on this one. Right out of the box I noticed QC issues, the first being that the holes the lock knobs thread into were drilled at a slight angle, so the lock knob studs don't sit in the positioning holes correctly and cause the wood to tweak slightly in the metal brackets, preventing the wood pieces from sitting flush against each other. The wood is stapled together, and as soon as you put any tension on the gate, the center begins to bow outward and pull itself apart at the staples. This becomes even more pronounced when trying to mount the gate any distance off the floor - the 18 inch height is about 6 inches shorter than a standard baby gate, so keep that in mind when considering this for your wide hallway or threshold. Luckily the fence seems to be enough of a visual deterrent to keep my 5 pugs from attempting to leap over it, even though I'm pretty sure they all could. If you have the option of using a hardware-mounted gate in your application, I suggest doing so instead of buying this. If you can spend more money on a higher quality pressure-mount fence, do it. I can't really suggest or recommend this one.

We bought about seven of these to install around our porches to keep our tiny toy poodle from getting into the driveway. They are super easy to install, look very nice, and are quickly portable with the twist of a knob. They come in very handy to also bar certain rooms inside. The poodle couldn't get over them, we easily stepped over them, and our big German Shepherd could still jump over them, as we planned. But sometimes the Shepherd felt lazy and didn't jump as high, and his back feet would crash and break them. They were not meant for this type of stress and ultimately all of them broke and were replaced with metal fencing. But I would still recommend them highly for a stylish and easy way to keep small pets in or out of a doorway.
