The Mason Pearson Nylon Pocket brush is the smallest brush the company makes with nylon bristles. It's 6 7/8 inches (17.5 cm) long, including the handle, and the bristles occupy and area about 2 ¼ x 4 inches (6 x 10 cm). The "dark ruby" plastic handle looks like a very dark brown; you can only see the red cast if light is shining through it. The nylon bristle brushes are for thick hair. (The boar's bristle models are for thin hair, and the bristle/nylon models are for normal hair.) I bought the nylon pocket model, because I need metal or plastic bristles for my thick hair, and I was looking for a smaller brush that I can easily manipulate for styling small sections of hair.

Although I didn't intend to, I ended up using this as my main hairbrush, because it leaves my hair smoother and shinier than any other brush I've used. It must have something to do with the style of the bristles, which are two different lengths, with four bristles per hole and nearly 180 holes. About 750 bristles total, grouped in sets of four. Apparently, Mr. Mason Pearson, a London brushmaker, invented the rubber-cushion hairbrush in 1885. Nice to know. Though this brush is not sturdy enough for my thick hair when it's wet (the bristles are too flexible), it is the best hairbrush I've used on dry hair. It's a must-have if you have thick hair and wear it down long. It will shine.

Have had the Mason Pearson nylon/bristle version of this brush which has been excellent for thick long hair, but should not be used on wet hair. So I got this one to fill that gap, but the stimulation this thing gives to the scalp borders on the indecent. Also a great detangler.

You cannot get a better hairbrush than Mason Pearson. I have a larger one I have used on my long hair for over 15 years. They last forever. I like this detangler better than the mix of boar and nylon. I have both. Got this for my purse. This is gentler on my hair for some reason.

This brush makes my hair bushy & frizzy. This isn't for thick curly hair. I bought this brush because I wanted a Mason Pearson that was cheaper. I guess this brush would be nice if you have thin hair which lacks volume.

The ideal brush for long, thick hair, in a perfect size for a handbag. The bristles are firm enough to get through to the scalp and actually detangle without scraping or snagging. I have never found better and will likely use this brush for the rest of my life. Be careful not to confuse it with the boar-bristle version, which cannot penetrate thick hair at all.

I think for nylon this should not cost almost as much as the boar bristle brush which is my only peeve (I actually mistook it for the boar when ordering.) That said it does work very well and I use this smaller size as my regular brush; I have the large one but it feels unwieldy and this one travels well too. The well-spaced bristles separate and penetrate to the scalp yet don't tug, I think due to the puffy rubber base which allows for gentle flexing. I had their boar bristle pocket size for a good 10 years before bristles on the front end and most-used side began to break and I expect the nylon will last even longer. Once you try Mason Pearson in either material you're hooked; I tried subbing the drugstore look-alike but not even close.

Fantastic pocket brush that I carry in my purse. I'll honestly say that I never thought the brush would make a difference with my hair, as it is very long and coarse, but it truly does give your hair a polished look.

The brush is excellent. It does a great job with tangles in long thick hair. It evenly distributes the oils and any product efficiently and leaves your scalp feeling fresh.

My only concern is that the brush feels very light. Dont get me wrong, it feels solidly constructed when you're using it, but it just feels hollow and too light.
