Product Description

Join us for the approach and successful ascent of one of Nepal's highest trekking peaks. Mera Peak takes you on a 20 day expedition into the stark beauty of the towering Himalaya mountains. At 21,240 foot elevation, Mera Peak is one of Nepal's highest trekking peaks. The summit panorama includes five of the world's fourteen 8,000 meter peaks: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Kangchenjunga. The journey begins with a brief tour of Kathmandu followed by a Twin Otter flight to Lukla, gateway to the Everest region. Departing Lukla, the path leads east from the Khumbu valley, over the 15,000 foot Zatrwa La, and then descends to the floor of the Hinku Valley. As we follow the Hinku Khola river north, up the valley, with avalanches crashing down on either side of the route, Mera Peak soon comes into view, dominating the landscape from the valley's head. Ascending the Mera Glacier to the Mera La, a base camp is established at nearly 18,000 feet. The next day it's roped climbing to the high camp at over 19,000 feet on the summit pyramid. An alpine departure puts the climbers on top by midday. Spectacular mountain scenery, maps and routes. Produced in 2006 from original footage shot in 1998
